I'm sorry, my thoughts didn't necessarily include you mentioning footholds (which you didn't), I was just trying to convey a natural progression of equipment. I'd start with snares, then 330s, then move on from there. Again, STARTING with snares.

I've never used snares for beaver. I like footholds the best, but love a 330 in the right spot. If you've got a channel the beaver are using it is likely the right size to drop a 330 in and there is no easier set for a novice to make and be confident it is right. If you are on a budget (or are packing equipment any distance) use 11 wire for a drowning rig rather than rods. Much cheaper, lighter, and you can cut to just the right length on site.

You can also go off the ends of the feedbed with some conibears with a little fencing on the outside of the conibear. The beaver alot of time will hug the outside edge of the feedbed especially when swimming back to the lodge.Caught slot of beaver that way.

Need to be a bit more technical with snares. Especially when your running limited numbers as I'm sure you know. Dont need much expertise with 330s other than dont catch yourself with it...most situations as long as the 330 is somewhat standing upright you'll catch your beaver. Not so much with snares. With a week to go in the season, your going to need a fast crash course in snaring to get something caught.

And for the most part snares are One and done after a catch. And If you want dead beavers when snaring It limits you to just a few set ups. And Then It takes a bit more prep to get them DOA.
I would go with the 330s.

I'm assuming cable restraints and cages, isn't that all that is legal where you are?
