DiggerDale OP trapper Joined: Jan 2014 Posts: 1,353 North Cass Co. Minnesota	Got this letter from the IRS yesterday concerning my 2020 tax filing. The credit shown is the same amount as the check for taxes owed that was enclosed with my 2020 tax return. All was sent in early April 2021 . Any suggestions before I call that number?

Has always ended in 1040 as suffix as far as I can remember. Look for an official doc number of form like IRS xxxx. I would initially call scam without more info. Rules: Col. Father in Law went thru that only his was he owed and hadn't filed his return took close to 2 years to clear that up or forget about it his tax accountant said rite at the getgo his taxes were correct filed on time and they would be good to stand-in for him if needed just forget about it Still the letters he got bothered him olden tyred

It sounds as though your check somehow got separated from your return. Did you file electronically ? and send a physical check ? Mean As Nails

I finally got directed towards an actual person and got the "SORRY, DUE TO UNUSUALLY HIGH VOLUME, PLEASE CALL BACK AT A LATER DATE"... Just add another three letter agency that has lost my respect...

My return and check were received over nine months ago but the return is still being processed. No need for me to take any action... I did get the impression I was being spanked for still using paper returns... Sounds like many are getting these notices so my advice is get on the phone before sending them more paperwork.....
