Just searched some local suppliers (Eastern Wisconsin) and pork ranged from $1.90-4.00 / # hanging weight. The pig we purchased last fall (fair season) was $1.50 / # hanging and processed at $0.79 a pound.

Forever in debt to my Father who introduced me to trapping. May I be half the man he was.

I don't remember exact poundage that we ended up with (80-90?), but we bought a half Tamworth in November. Meat was $299, butcher (kill, cut, wrap, smoke bacon, breakfast links and ham) was $110. Heritage meat ain't cheap, but it's delicious and local.

Just started getting orders in on my hogs this week. 1.40 hanging plus butcher fees paid by the buyer. Butcher charges 60 dollar kill fee and 60 cents a lbs hanging weight. Extra 50 cents/lbs for smoking bacon and hams. Final price is about 2.30 a lbs without smoking.
There isn't much money to be made at these prices. I should charge more. I figure my hourly wage raising these 18 hogs is about 25 cents. Corn is pushing 6 dollars a bushel and they eat like...pigs.

I have a OK pig hunt the end of next month I’ll need to look into the pricing on it, it’s going into breakfast sausage mostly if not all of it.
Was born in a Big City Will die in the Country OK with that!
