Does anyone have any experience with this drags? I trap mostly all wooded areas four wheeler trails and logging roads. I was thinking If welded some extra weight on and used 10 ft of chain that they might work ok. Has anyone tried that or should I just stay away from these drags and go with something else.

Are you going to be targeting coyotes mainly? If so I’d either pre wrap that style of drag or invest in a heavier duty style drag. Or you mentioned welding weight to them so weld up some heavier duty drags up plenty of good how to make a drag info on here.

Preston as Hammer mentioned there are better choices out there but...if you can locate some railroad spikes and weld them to your drags. They will add more weight and they have another digging tine to show drag marks for trailing. Be sure to use a heavier quality chain if you are going to IMPROVE these drags again like Hammer mentioned. Pre hooking these drags up at the set really reduces the work for set making and a longer chain adds to your flexibility of where you want to make your set. Good luck.

I use the 3/8ths drags where I can prehook them. When I say prehook I'm not talking about hooking onto a single bush. I'm usually wrapping around one bush and hooking in one or more other bushes. The thing I like about them is I can stack a couple dozen in an old 5 gallon turkey fryer pot.

I have heavier drags for more open areas. With heavy drags that I can't prehook on bushes I'll drive a rebar stake half way in at an angle pointing toward cover. If they are able to jerk it off the rebar they are headed toward cover instead of down the road. This works really good for me. All my drags have USA #3 chain for the extra weight.

Another thing I use a lot is USA #2 extension chains with no drag. I have them rigged with a triangle quick link that stays on one end and then a regular oval quick link on the other. I run the oval link through the triangle link looped around a bush and pull up tight. Then hook the oval link to trap as usual. I have them in six foot and eight foot lengths. The eight footers have a small quick link hooked in the chain close to the triangle end to help with separating them for storage. I keep the six footers in Folgers plastic cans and the eight footers in Maxwell House cans. LOL

My MB550s have a few links of chain added, then another crunch proof swivel and then a chesnut ring on the end. I can use quick links to attach any of the above attachments or disposable stakes. Or just use rebar cross stakes. I use drags or extension chain about 95% of the time. The chestnut ring really shines when taking off the quick links as it gives you good leverage to loosen the quick links when removing them.

You spend hours looking for a lost 3/8 drag you will be wishing you bought better ones if you go that way like said prehook them I’d go as far as to wire the drag even to a small tree root of branch. I plan on using snap links and adding more chain to my rigs.

The plan is to extend my chains and use these clips after wrapping the chain around a sapling or heavy snag brush. Twin loop you would go through the chains with straight loop around the whole chains. Just hook them to your set up so they are there when needed. If they fail you still have a drag to work for you.

Use window weights, concrete, barbell weights,,,,, anything you can get your hands on to weigh down that 3/8" diam. metal grapple. I don't depend on ANY unweighted grapple digging into our frozen cropland soil enough to slow a coyote down (even with 10' of chain). Extra weight up to 20-25 lbs. will slow them here. An old 8'X6" wooden fence post blends in here and will hang them up pretty quick in place of a grapple. Depends on the mode of travel you have the space for and the time needed to attach the grapple at the trap site,,,, as a long chain can be fitted to about or in any cover (harvested cropland) I trap coyotes in............................ the mike

Got access to a welder ? If so I'd be happy to give you the measurements for these. Make em out of 5/8'th rebar and spike nails or 3/8's cold roll and for about $3 a pop you have a. Nice compact heavy tldrag that will put them grapples to shame. Used them things ONCE and one coon up a tree was all it took also if your just staring out I might have some one or two extra sabertooths lying around if you wanna try em out
