Someone told me its easier to scrape on a beam when you leave half the carcass on the hide. Guess he was right by the looks of it,lol.
I think there's some truth to that. I tried my hand at clean skinning on one this year, and of course did a terrible job. But I couldn't for the life of me get it fleshed the way I wanted afterwards with my regular fleshing knife. I do much better leaving half of it on.

I skin them either over my knee or on the beam with a knife. Way faster for me than a fleshing knife. Only beaver, though. I prefer the beam. I’ll admit, that one there has a bit of chunky to it. I must have been in a rush. Lol. But if I just leave that membrane and fat I speed through them.

I do all rough skinned beaver over my knee also. Once you learn how to sharpen a knife its a breeze-thats the key to clean skinning too. Otter goes real good over the knee too.
Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.

I tried "clean" skinning a couple this year. I did okay until I got to the back, and I made some ill advised cuts, ill just rough skin from now on. BTW, I'm gonna do a couple backwards (split up the back) just to see what happens. That belly fur just seems too soft to split it apart IDK!

Lol, brought to you from the beaver realms. Where did you find Mike? Looks like you smuggled him in a large suitcase from Hawaii. I wouldn’t fight him. Lol.
Les, you sound like Clint Eastwood sometimes.

John, I’m a quitter when it comes to clean skinning. I’m not afraid to admit it. I start one every year and then just start jacking away like my knife is a machete. Lol.
