Hello I am new to trapping and have a question. I have a couple of fox that are coming thru my yard that I caught on my security camera. So I set out a dirt hole set in the area where the fox or foxes are traveling. For two days in a row what I think is the same fox comes thru about the same time in the early morning, 2:30am, pees in the same area that is about 10 feet from where the set is but never goes to the set. It is almost like the fox is on a mission and has no interest in the set. Only seems to be interested in marking the same spot with pee then leaves. Do I leave the set as is and in time the fox will check it out or do you make another set in the spot where the fox is peeing? Any ideas would be helpful. thanks,

I thought about that but was not sure if that was the thing to do. I guess I will give that a try.
thanks,

Not sure if I am posting picture correctly or if it will post. But this will give an idea of where the set is in relation to where the fox is from the set[Linked Image]

This is the fox and where he pees and circled in yellow is where the trap is. two mornings in a row at the same time the fox has gone to the same two spots, pees, then heads out. does not stop and check anything out

Great point. Always set for the predominant wind and hope he comes by during that time. Just last night I had a bobcat walk 10ft from one of my sets set for anything with a W in it because this time of year a majority of our winds have a W in them. Last night was E/SE so he had NO clue it was even there.

I'm not sure on predominant wind direction. The wind the last few days has not been consistently blowing one direction due weather changes.. Mousey Trapper pointed out that being at the edge of the wood line may be deterring him from checking it out. I put another set out in the area where the fox is peeing. I guess I will see what happens. Thanks for the input

Yes, I’m learning that K9’s don’t seem to like anything blocking their view as far as a backing is concerned. He made a good point.
