My line has really gone quiet the last couple weeks as temps have remained well below freezing here in PA. I finally cut some fox tracks the other day on one of the farms I am trapping. The tracks passed within a couple yards of two of my sets without any hint of the fox investigating. These are sets that have been productive just a couple weeks ago (pipe dream set and hay bale set). What has changed? Is it the cold, the breeding season, or are they just getting smart to my lures & bait?

It is getting to be that time of year where they have one thing on their mind and it aint food smile Id suggest a pee post set with a good gland lure or matrix and fox pee. I like Hawbacker red fox 500 and 700 and Pauls GL40 is also a good gland lure.

Trapping is like fishing and hunting, there are no guarantees that you are going to get anything, just have fun doing it.

Its been slow for me as well recently, the ones i am catching are all flat sets well blended with gland lure or urine. Its tough right now with the ground being so saturated before this hard freeze its near impossible to chisel out new beds unless you have hay fields. Keep at them, not much time left!
