Does anyone have any history on Pat. I loved his book when I was a kid back in the 70s . I read from cover to cover. Over and over again. Loved it as it had so much information along with lots of pictures

I don't have any history. I did have his book as a very young trapper. I thought it was a great book at that time.

I got myself a seniors' GPS.
Not only does it tell me how to get to my destination,
it tells me why I wanted to go there.

I have a signed copy around here somewhere. I don't know Mr. Sedlack's history.

Eh...wot?

I have a signed copy also, The signature is done with a green colored felt tip pen. Pat Sedlack wrote articles Fur Fish Game magazine back in the late 1950's I believe. I showed the book to Tom Parr. Several years ago. Good book to get a young trapper thinking and motivated for trapping and profit back in the day.

Tom Parr and NATCA museum has quite a bit of material on Sedlack, including letters between him and other trappers, early catalogs and methods, not just the books. There are some members of the PA association that still remember him and collect his material. There was a fellow two years ago that had a book of matches with The School Boy Trapper on the cover, Very rare. There was a first edition SBT listed in the shed earlier, Looked like a good deal to me. I have a few photos of Tom Parrs material and will try to dig them out this weekend and post on this thread.

He like alot of other trappers had some controversy about him : but they were still trappers and part of our history.

The world is changing and collecting the old material as it comes on line is a pretty good idea; you should consider visiting NATCA museum and joining the club as they have some real historians there.

I bought his book when I was in high school, I believe it was ninth grade. Fired me up….I trapped off my bike, then motor scooter, then graduated to a car. He talked about some day, trappers would be using airplanes! And they do, just ask Marty Mariotta! One of the suggestions he had in there was to always carry a roll of TP with you, you could get out and check some traps then act like you just had to go, displaying the TP! Back in those days, having permission wasn’t a big deal as most people accepted and wanted people and kids to trap!

I loaned my copy to someone and never saw it again. Mine was signed in a black magic marker!

When I was young and just starting trapping I had a copy that was my bible so to speak. What happened to the guy seems he just disappeared from the trapping world?

Hammer, I remember hearing that he had passed on. I believe there were either two or three brothers, but Pa was a long way from Ks, so I just heard and read of the Sedlacs, never got to meet any real trappers till I went to my first NTA convention in Scribner Ne, I think in 76. If I had never gone to any of the nationals, I’d never met most of the trappers I know today….including you! Enjoyed meeting you this past NTA in Spencer!

If anybody has a copy of Fur-Fish-Game from November 1946, the picture on the cover is either Pat or one of his brothers holding a few fox. I have a copy of a picture of Pat with O.L Butcher and E.J. Dailey taken in the early 1960's at a NYS Trappers Convention up in Piseco. If I can figure out how to get a picture on here I'll post it.

. Great meeting you as well Lee . Conventions sure have been fun. Started going to them in the 90s and haven’t missed many years.

Are you going to Lima in July? At first I didn’t plan to, but getting that itch! I really hate driving east of the Mississippi river! Traffic is horrendous back that way!

Do they still print this book? Or is it a collectable only? I love to get old books for my kids to read. Growing up poor in Florida, my Mom always hit up the libraries in the nearby cities when they were giving old books away so they could stock new books. I loved the old books she got for us, some as old as the 1920's. No public library in this village, or thrift stores, have to order books in.

Real good book, even today. Old school but good. He had a lot of lure formulas one could try in the book.
He talked about famous trappers he had met. Some big name trappers have nothing good to say about others due to their ego.

He wrote two other methods that I am aware of. One was a dog proof ,method that I was lucky enough to get from a friend.
The other was a hidden mink set method.

Interesting guy and boy he could fire the imagination.

Mac

Mac, I think he rated right up there with Wiley Carroll, when It came to lure formulas! Only big difference was Wiley was a lion and coyote guy, and Pat was a mink guy, prolly more than anything because of where they both lived. You can’t downplay the fact that they were very interested in lures!

Pat didnt live far from me. We spoke a few times over the years but our lives took different paths it seems and I didn't see or hear from Pat in his later years.
