I bought one of the new Alphas to try out. Almost everything about it seems great. The problem I’m having is that I’d like to 4 coil it to have a little more power for use in the snow. But when I add the extra springs the levers twist and the loose jaw ends up being much higher than the pan. Am I doing something wrong or is there a way to adjust for this? Thanks

I'd say you'll have to level the pan to the new jaw height, but curious what someone who knows something will say.

Or you can do what I did to some TS85s I four coiled. Weld a small chunk of key stock on the lever where the dogside jaw sits, it will compensate for the the twist and cause the loose jaw to lay flat, or even lower, which isn't generally a problem. I'll see if I have a picture on my computer Yep, I have some that way...would be right where your index finger is, between fixed jaw and lever. Good thinkin Bearcat

Take a pair of channel locks and give your levers a twist. The coils you added are making your levers twist. Agree.

Key stock works. On my gear I just stick a screwdriver through the lever and twist. Works well.
I'm itchin' to see a coyote twitchin'.

All my Alphas are 4 coiled, set the trap and put pressure on the levers with a pair of channel locks were the jaws contact the levers till its level. I had maybe 3 out of a bunch I had to do that with. Ounce its done it stays better than torquing with a screw driver . Go easy at first , it doesn't take much. Looks like your pan needs raised a bit also. Easily done by loosening the pan bolt on the frame, mark it first with a sharpy so you have a reference point. I've used up to #2 coils for helpers without distortion. The #2 main springs are too much power but they proved a point. The #2 helper springs balance them perfect. The Jc Conners lightning springs designed for MB 550s work well also.

Thanks Everyone! I’ll try the channel-loc adjustment when I get a chance. Right now it’s guarding a dirt hole 2-coiled. Seems like a great trap, will likely get some more for next year. Thanks again.
