Anyone ever use any of the commercial muskrat floats? If so which ones, and how did they perform?

Most folks buy one and use it for a pattern to make their own, if your river trapping I’d make the simple V ones and the square ones in the ponds. 2 traps on the same float seems like a waste sometimes as the first rat sets them both off most of the time.

Totally agree, and there are tons of plans out there for simple rat floats. That being said, a couple places have them pretty reasonably priced. I'm only looking for a few, and given the price of wood these days, along with limited time, I thought I would look at purchasing a few.

If you need wood try hitting up someone that works construction for any scrap pieces they might be getting rid of or look for scrap pallet piles. There a lot of scrap lumber getting thrown away.

Build a few and try them out. Floats don't seem to work In certain areas.

The only ones that really work (and not commercially available) are the ones I make, and they only seem to work up here in the far north. lol [Linked Image]

That Is If you have a spring season.
I'm going to do some stool and float testing this spring. WI dosen't have a spring season but I can trap at any time on my ADC jobs so time will tell.
I know they work In ND In both the spring and the fall.

If a guy looks around scrap lumber is not hard to find my neighbor just put up a building I collected all the scraps I could find when they were done putting it up.
