I recently read a old post that I can’t find. It’s about add something to beaver castor to enhance the smell and it wasn’t red wine or ever clear or anything like that. I’m thinking it was a oil or musk but don’t know for sure

When you say enhance do you mean it makes the odor stronger, last longer or more attractive to target animal. What is your target animal? That would play a part in what you would use for me.

Grain alcohol can boost odor due to its chemical nature, some use zinc valerate as a booster for glandular odors to name two materials.

I like to dry and grind my castor and add the sac oil and glycerin to it for my beaver lure and it has always worked good for me but thinking of trying something different. I did find the old post it was a response from Asa Lenon about asafetida enhancing castor and he said anise oil and Tonquin musk would enhance castor and also lovage. To be honest idk what i mean by enhance grin. I'm thinking not making it stronger but maybe more appealing

I'm assuming you want to enhance it for use on beaver and I'm not a beaver guy so I can't help you. I do wonder if Asa's post was directed at making castor more appealing in predator formulations based off the ingredients mentioned but again I'm not a beaver guy so I could be wrong.

I keep thinking in a moment of weakness the boss will slip up and share the secret to Backbreaker and then we will all know how to make magical castor but the sly old fox hasn't yet....

Castoreum,by itself, is an attractive scent for many different animals.
Some common additives as scent to fine tune its attractiveness to specific target animals is, oil of anise, oil of spearmint, fish oil, vanilla extract, among other less common ones.

Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.

Asa's comment with those ingredients would have to be enhance for Predator purposes for sure.

If I read that right he said not to add asafetida to enhance castor. I will try adding anise oil though. I’ve got a bottle with vodka and another bottle with wine . I’m thinking of adding the anise oil to the one with wine . Any thoughts?

Or tonquin, which is a common additive for beaver lures. Theres different qualities of tonquin as its artificial these days as getting the real thing is cost prohibitive

Been thinking seriously about this and I’m afraid the anise oil may have the coons molesting the castor mounds. I have had coons mess up a castor mound using Backbreaker. Hum. ?

Doesn't matter what you put in the castor... Coon love castor just like ever other animal.

Yea they probably don’t hurt anything as long as they don’t knock my snare down. Most of the time they are just wallering the mud mound , I’m sure it still smells like castor.
