Who washes fur? I picked this up today for $0.00 so I couldn’t pass it up I wonder if I’m over complicating things?

I'm excited to see how it works. I saw videos on YouTube from Coon Creek Outdoors it seems like a good idea. I took some beaver off the boards today and combed them out and sand kept coming up hopefully this helps. Like I mentioned maybe I'm complicating things, it never bothered me before but a guys gota try new things

You won't regret it. I'd always washed my coyotes in an old machine but we moved and didn't have the setup to do it any more. I put up all my coyotes expect the last three without washing them. The last three I washed in a bucket then rinsed on an old stretcher. The dirt that came out of those things was amazing. They definitely look better washed.

i wash all my fur in the washing machine. i pick up old ones on the curb and test them. you would be surprised how many are still good, the other half says they have to match! any gas dryer makes a good tumbler, little work to convert them. take the igniter out and your good.
oh, wash then flesh. i did it the other way and its not good.i threw a black apron in with some coon, freshly fleshed, and the leather turned black.

I wash furs in a bucket using a hose after skinning. Wring them out, snap them, and l set them on cardboard on the floor in the garage to dry and chill before fleshing. Makes a big difference to wash them.

Edit
I do not usually wash rats or beaver other than using the water I caught them in if they got muddy. They just get hung up in the shed tail down before skinning to dry. I don’t get many beaver.

Using a leaf blower does work great on wet animals as someone mentioned. If just damp I just use an old towel to dry them.

Stuff that is really muddy will get washed, but otherwise a quick swish in the crick is all I'll do. Then I'll skin and let hang awhile, then into the tumbler before fleshing.

I wash everything after fleshing. Then it's boarded and blown dry with a leaf blower, a gas powered leaf blower creates a little heat and drys just a little faster than an electric one. Then put on a dry board and dryed normally. I hand wash all mine

I hand wash, after fleshing. I washed cats with soap since I was 12 years old, and always beat sale averages, but a bunch of the buyers claim not to use soap on cats. I had one flip through 35 cats a couple years ago and pick out the one I didn't wash. So the last two years I have just been rinsing cats in cold water to get the blood and mud out. When you snap them dry the fur fluffs a lot more than if you used soap. Makes it a lot harder to spot any bald spots I need to fix. But otherwise I've been very happy with doing them this way without soap. I still use soap on coyotes and wolves. Never washed water animals.

I wash all coyotes after fleshing. I trap in sand, can't believe how much sand they can have on them. Washing after fleshing helps remove any grease also. I use an old wringer washer. My fur room has running water and drains.

I am a believer in washing. Usually after fleshing.

Is that one of these new “high efficiency” deals that doesn’t use but two cups of water?

I can make very strong arguments both for, and against washing land animals.

Almost never.
I trap in winter and all lethal sets-no mud or blood.
