I was given a coyote hide from a friend that he caught this year. Had a small metal ear tag with MDC on one side and 11287 on the other. Got a call in to our game warden and a email to Missiouri DNR to see if they have any info when and where the coyote was tagged. I'm about 45 miles from the state line/river.

Missiouri DNR called me last week. The trapper is from Kirksville MO and the coyote was caught in Putman county. Dnr said it was caught with a cable restraint and then later used for training hounds. This is roughly 130 miles from me give or take a few

Could also be a private tag kinda like catch and release. Have seen bear, bobcat, and coyote with tags that the DNR were unaware of.

Probably one tagged in my area. They get a small ear tag with their collar. They collar falls off after a year. I caught a few for them to collar one year.

Usually the researchers promise the moon in info...but rarely does it come to fruition. All I can tell you is those collars ruin the fur on the coyotes neck. However in the bottom pic that Rob posted that coyote looks like a skinner.

Mike is correct. Like pulling hens teeth to actually get the info. For me anyway.
That yote was a skinner. Only had the collar on 3 weeks and I caught it about 6 miles from where it was originally caught.

That coyote would have been an escapee from a running pen.
Any info on where the pen was located?

Let me get this straight…..
The trapper who initially caught it was from Kirksville.
He caught it in Putnam County.
Your friend caught it in Illinois 130 miles from Putnam County.
If I got all that right, what you need is the location of the running pen that it was released in to find out how far it came.
There is a couple running pens in Putnam County.
Interesting none the less.
My buddy caught a coyote and sold it to a running pen in Putnam county. Two weeks later he caught the same coyote within 1/2 mile of where he caught it the first time. Had the required ear tag still in it. It had traveled about 25 miles back to its home range. It was a young of the year female.
