With the farm land that I have I often see coyotes out eating the cow afterbirth. Has anyone used it during the fall seasons and let it age any with luck? Any mixtures to put in with it if I let it set in a mason jar?

After birth is a very good predator bait especially on coyotes. It is a fragile material to work with and is prone to breakdown quickly, it is best to use it fresh when available. It is kind of like working with jelly fish and snot mixed together.

2 ways I have used it, aged to the point it's just liquid (which doesn't take too long) or put it on a screen and let it dry for a day or two (until dry on the outside) then grind and preserve. Have to freeze it for a couple days to kill.any fly eggs that might have been laid while drying.

Thank you for the insight guys. I have an unlimited amount of it, I farm. Definitely have been literally shoulder deep in it some days lol. I have some in a gallon mason jar sitting out in an old feed pile getting aged some. Since I've never actually seen it rot on its own, unless it was retained in an animal due to complications, I was wondering what it would look like if it were to be aged in a jar on its own.

I am using a cavens brand neat based bait right now, and I had a fox come up to one of my sets, steal the wool out, but didn't even eat the bait. I guess I'm a little less than impressed with it if he went through all that trouble and didn't even take the food.

Fox are notorious for that behavior and picky like that it seems. I have seen that behavior many times in my years on the line. They are curious to a great degree, then when they get out the material that smells attractive they just play with it, roll on it and/or pee on it but don't often consume any. The bait did its job basically which is to attract and make an animal curious.

I don't use lure holders of any kind due to that behavior of many animals. I prefer to put the bait or lure deep into a hole or smear it on the top of the hole channel using a butter knife.. It is near impossible for them to get the lure and bait out placed in that manner.

In my few years of testing I've seen baits and lures that the majority of coyotes will just come get a sniff and go on and I've also tested formulations that the majority of coyotes will spend a good amount of time working trying to get it. Sometimes you will catch the one that comes for a sniff sometimes you won't. I know nothing about fox trapping but it's hard to guide a coyote tight enough to catch the majority of the ones that just come for a sniff. The more action an attractant can get the more I like it.

Would you care to share such info??

As Seldom pointed out one time, information has value because it takes time, money, labor and other resources to obtain. I'll share some information but I won't give all of the little wealth I have away freely. It would become like welfare to those who aren't willing to work for it. And welfare doesn't help anyone. Plus there would be some that wouldn't believe if I shared it so in general I think it benefits the individual that really wants to learn to go find the answers themselves. Plus when you learn it from the animals yourself you will start to learn who knows what they are talking about and who doesn't. That discernment from learning who to listen to will help shorten the learning curve too.

Well then I wish you weren't in Kansas so you could come learn me a thing or two. I understand the welfare idea, and I guess I would be interested in how others do things because some of the ideas I have may not be working because of shear low numbers, or maybe I'm going things completely wrong for a given area. I'd like to experiment, but my time is valuable and I don't have all day to commit to experiment on twenty different set ups. I like to absorb all the information I can.
