If you're nuisance trapping do you put skunks up year around?

Depends upon weather or not you have a market for summer hides.

Just curious, what would a summer hide be used for ?
Doesn't the fur thin out ?
Thanks

Hanging on the wall on the other side of the room, a skunk is a skunk whether it is prime or not. And the average person has no idea of primness.

Picked up 4 today it was 4 degrees last night I can’t believe they moved that much they seem smaller lately then just a few weeks ago. The younger ones might sleep longer but ran out of fat maybe, some look to young to breed they look like last years pups.

I have 7 to pod out I’ll be lucky to get a few ounces out of all 7. Warming up next week that should keep them coming I should be at 75 now gotta make hay while the sun’s a shining.

Jerry, they don't seem to be out much around here. Drove back from NE last week and seen quite a few on the road until I got to MN. Only seen one or two raccoons on the road locally. Maybe these guys haven't read the book on how things are done in their world as my traps have been empty other than a few stray cats.

I’m shocked they are moving this much but breeding season might be pushing them here now.

Not much movement here in the E.U.P. yet but........ It won't be that way much longer than 10-14 more days the way the weather is going!

Skinned several today the smaller ones had zero fat on them all their reserves are gone they are lucky it’s warming up soon. Just hope they can come back if they don’t go to far down hill. The bigger one still had fat on it but that one could have a steady food supply.

Zero fat on this smaller skunk it’s a critical time for the ones with no fat now. I wonder what the mortality rate is in the spring for them that run out of reserves to early?

Picked up a small female roadkill today. She didn't have any fat on her and was full of worms. No wonder she was out wondering around.

Had a little front blow through earlier this week. Quit snowing about dark, temps in the teens. I was amazed at the amount of skunk tracks the next morning. I'm assuming the breeding season is getting them going. Season closed here unfortunately.

They just keep coming 2 yesterday 4 the day before that 2 the day before that, not many days in the last couple months I have not caught skunks several 5 Pepe days lots of 3-4 skunk days. They went from mostly large to some xxl now the smalls art coming out.

One place is up to 30 skunks in one area that a guys dad leases getting 12-14 rom the newer place I get into is common, things will heat up next week as it warms up but I have had a lot of movement in the single digit temps probably due to the breeding season.

Had a neighbor stop by this morning and ask if I wanted a skunk. Seems when he went out to feed his cats this morning he was greeted by a surprise. The cats are fed in a shed but they also have a small barrel with a piece of carpet covering the opening for them to sleep in. After he loaded up the cat dishes he lifted the carpet to check on his cats and found a skunk bedded in with them! Fortunately for him it was sleeping so he left it alone and came right over. When I got there his wife was curious as to how to catch them so took me over to the shed to watch. I set one live trap while she watched then we both stepped out so I could grab a second trap. When we stepped back in she immediately seen the skunk and bailed out of the room! It was a smaller skunk and didn't seem too excited but apparently came out to check out my first trap while I was gone getting the second one. It was only about 5' away from me and crawled in behind a few straw bales while I was setting the second trap. When I came out of the shed the farmers wife was amazed that I hadn't gotten sprayed and now calls me the skunk whisperer (even though I haven't caught it yet). She is very interested in trapping and said she would check them for me. I showed her how to deal with the cats and how to reset my live traps. She's all for it but said she would have to have me deal with the skunk. grin

This one had a pile of worm under the skin never seem so many that I can remember, no impact on the hide when I fleshed it.

Not the best looking skunk as he was rubbed between the sholders but was loaded for bear. Surprisingly easy going so this Made it simple to load into the back of truck to dispatch elsewhere. Farmer was very pleased as assured me they would be calling me again. Got an oz of quill off the skunk too boot!
