I have some finished Beaver pelts stacked in my workshop- temps are warming and I’m worried about Dermestid Beetles nibbling on them. Freezer is full and next sale without shipping them is May- Plastic garbage bags never seem to be a friend of fur- thoughts?

If you are selling in may,I would bag them in a fur bag,and check them every week or two.
If you see any bugs give them a good shot of raid, and re-bag.
How many pelts are you talking about? You will have to check every pelt.

Why not ship them? Most, if not all, auction agents, buyers have the proper facilities for storing furs.

The only constant in trapping is change so keep learning.

How far are you from Coleman WI? You could sell to Richard Clark @Willowtree Fur. He buys for Trevor Barnes.

Further to my previous comment, I do not believe in holding fur for any length of time or specific sale. If you have fur on hand process it and ship it. IMO you will average out better in the long run by processing and shipping fur when it is fresh and ready for marketing. If held over for a future sale your fur often becomes stale and is then down graded and you loose value regardless.

I do hold fur some times, but there are disadvantages to that a lot of the time.If you continue to trap and hold fur you quickly run out of storage space. And like Tomcat said if its not scraped grease free and kept in a freezer it will go stale over one summer and be downgraded because stale fur often doesnt dress well.
And most people hold fur when the market is dropping. So you will lose money selling later.
Holding fur when the market is rising will pay off,but not many do that-when prices are going up people sell right away.it is more profitable to hold fur for later sales in a rising market than a falling market, especially if you are able to time it right.Holding fur in a falling market means you have to wait for the market to bottom out and start to rise again later before selling-this can mean longer term storage.Holding fur on a rising market is shorter term often only a sale or two to make it worthwhile.

I was holding it only because I got behind- not trying to time the market. I'll either ship it or drop at Coleman on the way to get more.
