Where did you sell? Eastern Oregon bobcats averaged $250 about three weeks ago at K. Falls but some of the XXL A belly cats were in the $900-$1000 range.

Needed good spots on those bellies and our coyotes brought more than $15.
We kept a bobcat for tanning based on the price offered but sold our coyotes due to decent prices.

Just before the last Idaho sale and through the Wyoming sale that I Think wlloyd sold at there was a bottom out on the market around here. Coyotes that were down but selling at $36-40 weeks before averaged $15 and cats struggled. One thing is the really good cats still had buyers. The issue with the Wyoming sale was there were not a lot of spectacular cats there. There were good cats there just not spectacular. The good cat market is really hurting right now along with our coyotes. Those who sold early seemed to get the deal this year.

You just now figuring this out? Prices have been dropping since the first Idaho sale. The sale averages have only been so-so and that is more attributed to quantity. Every week guys where saying how hard coyotes are to move and getting cheaper by the sale.

You gotta have more then one buyer at a sale to not get hosed like everyone did that took fur to the Wyoming sale. Everybody that took fur there should have atleast gotten some warning that every buyer invited backed out Friday night!

There were three licensed buyers at the Wyoming sale. 9 were committed to come and 7 backed out. We did not get confirmation that all of the buyers had backed out friday night. Some buyers we never got anything from them at all they just did not show up. We were able to get the third buyer hooked up with us at the last minute when we started to get notices of buyers backing out.

We understand that the sale wasnt a big glowing success fur price wise. It was however a success in fur quantities recieved by the trappers for the first year doing a fur sale in a decade or more. We had the fur there we just lacked the market. The averages we did have though were the same or higher than the Idaho sale the weekend before. Their buyer numbers were higher than ours were that is for sure. The regular buyers there were not interested in Coyotes just like they werent interested that much here. They had some craft market sales there but the prices on those really struggled. We were higher by a little avg on coyotes and on cats we were a little lower. We did on average though not have many spectacular cats. It is my opinion the buyers quantity is directly reflected on the market for western coyotes and the buyers willingness to pay money on them right now. It is also my opinion that we didnt get too many cats in on the sale because there were reportedly some very fair prices being paid on cats directly to country buyers earlier before the sale. In those situations that is certainly good for the trapper that got the prices there.

I would not call 200 trapper coyotes a "success", having a buyer load the room to make quantity doesn't help. Buyers decide if the trip is worthwhile by the quantity the manager passes along. That late in the season and that close to Idaho hurt even more. This market is tough and poor communication will ruin thing faster than one can imagine.

Toms when we set up the first sale our goal was 700-1000 coyotes and 50-100 cats. Knowing when we set that number we had the big coyote load you are talking about committed. We fully understand that we couldn’t expect big numbers with our first sale back. There are just too many things at play especially in Wyoming. We chose the weekend we chose to make sure we were not stepping on our local states pre established sales. We also wanted the ability to try and get guys the ability to get late season cats sold.

The guy with the load of coyotes was not a registered buyer until Saturday morning. He was working halfway across the state the night before and wasn’t originally going to even make the sale. We didn’t have buyers stack furs for numbers. If you and other people think that I suppose you have that right. It isn’t necessarily true though.

We have a lot of work to do here. We will continue to try and do the best we can. State convention is next on the list.

You are aware your sale was on one of Oregon's biggest sales of the year right?

We were aware of the Oregon sale. We couldn’t avoid every single regional auction. We tried to find a spot with less of an impact to buyers and everyone in general. It is not easy that is for sure.
