This morning's selection is for Sharon. This ought to get a few of you contributing a photo or two of your equine buddies...

A couple of the local brumbies.

Przewalski's horses in Mongolia. Worldwide, this is the only "real" wild horse that exists. They are certainly interesting with the stiff neck-hair and the lack of a forelock. Notice the one with the radiocollar.

Ping- Jack !

Many thanks for your thoughtfulness .

Nice wee group of local brumbies . Those tri colours are always showy.

Really like your shots of the Przewalski's .

To sort of match your theme, I thought of these , Norwegian Fjords . They have that old world feel to them, in that the breed is fairly uniform in appearance , though still with some room for varied off colour types. A small horse type in stature , on the draft side with chunky body , heavy bone and slight feathering . A unique feature they all have is that dark stripe running right down the middle of the mane , sandwiched in with light to almost white mane on outside. That stripe end abruptly at the withers, though some have a faint dorsal line down the middle of the back , but many do not. The stripe picks up boldly again at the tail base and makes another flowing stripe surrounded by lighter hair on either side.

They are enjoyed for many sports, from endurance , to show jumping, western showing, logging and wagon teams.

It's pretty cool to see how some folks decorate that stripe in the mane , making innovative designs down the outside to show the dark in the center better.

Here's some sample shots to go with the theme flow today.

Below, samples of the overall colour tones ...

Left to more wild looks, they can become fuzzy with lots of facial hair. Here is one with the mane untrimmed. Makes a nice chocolate swirl appearance !

But they sure do clean up nicely for show. Some samples of creative mane trimming.

Stunning looking horses Sharon! for the most part all we had growing up was Shetlands, and boy could they be temperamental! We did have a quarter horse that us kids would crawl all over and she never seemed to mind. The three of us could ride her bare back all at once and she would stop if one of us started falling off. She was like a babysitter for us kids and our parents never seemed concerned when we where out riding with her. Smart creatures!

Nice growing up story, 20 scout . Babysitters are worth a lot.

Great looking ones too, Hoss ! You can just look at the ones standing still and be able to tell when they're built for speed.

Hoss, yes, high up to see everything out there.

Nice ones too, Kayleigh . Duns , especially line backed duns with tiger stripes are among my favourite tones. Ginger is a nice red dun. Love the dimension depth of colours in Buster also . Dark horses with pics taken at that sun angle really shows the layers of hair colours.
