I can rase them but I'm not going to do it for nothing. Honestly at those prices on the eggs I'm not making much. I may loose money on the eggs of you figure not laying in the winter and time tell they start laying.

Yeah the egg prices ain't bad. But I can't believe anyone would spend over $20 for a chicken, lol.

We do. Last October we saved all our CLEAN eggs and saved about 300. We ate on them up until last month. Only found a couple that were bad and that was because they were broke. Yolks are runny though.

Yeah , they're good for baking , and omelets or scrambled , but still good !
Once in awhile you get a yoke that holds up .

They last along time that way .
Mostly used to get over the winter when eggs are few on homesteads .

We are selling ours for $4/dozen right now. That is just covering feed cost and giving us free eggs as we need them. I tried to get my wife to market for $5, but she thought it’d be too high. One of our new customers said she paid $7 at the farmers market the other day

I have about 40 chickens now, I mainly give them away to elderly in the community, so I'm losing money but we do sell some chicks and have plenty of eggs to eat

A friend has a few layer houses which supply eggs to the hatchery, I just walk in and get all the double yolks I want for free.

Chicken is one of the few things we do buy a Walmart. We like Purdue chicken best and they almost always have lots of it.
