Hey Guys,

Just got a nuisance skunk this morning. I am hoping to extract the glands .....I know were they are but not how to get the stuff out! Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Using a syringe with adequate holding capacity and a sharp needle is the best way to extract essence without waste and leakage.

Use a syringe and a big bore needle (18 gauge, I think) stick the needle into the gland and suck the stuff out.

I used a Syringe and I believe it was a 14 gauge needle and stuck it into the glands and sucked out the essence with it, then put it in a glass bottle. Use as big a needle and Syringe as you can get to hold all the essence at one shot.

Lay the skunk on the ground with a open bottle laying behind it.Then jump into the air landing with both feet on the skunk.............

A couple of things you want to make note of when working with skunk essance. It is chemically a strong aldehyde which will allow it to eat almost anything that is not glass. That means plastic, rubber, even the rubber gasket will degrade and disgenerate over time. We harvest a pretty good amount of essance and have learned over time,(my barn support post smell of essance every rain)the best way to handle the stuff. Its not reccomened that you reuse your syringe or needle unless you clean them very well with an acid base product, (acid neutralizes aldehydies). We use a glass bottle that has a rubber seal, after time the seal will fail and you will stink so if we are not going to use it right away for lure we seal the bottles with wax.
