Newhouse Pan and Spring Stamp

I’ve noticed that the last two or three letters at the end of Community and the NY on a Newhouse trap pan is not struck as heavy as the rest of the pan.

Was this a flaw because I don’t believe it’s from use?

The later model traps from 1925 on made by ATC seems to strike the pans with less force than the earlier traps.

The same issue happens on the spring stamping. Also many traps have only one spring stamped.

Can anyone shed light on why this happens?

In order for a stamp, pan or spring, to come out evenly everything has to be even when the die is struck. You have flat surfaces, on the die and on the pan or spring, if they do not meet completely even when struck, the stamp will be deeper on one side than the other. Also, it is common for a cast pan to not be flat, sometimes having a dimple or low spot that the die can not reach. These low spots don't get stamped. The die is a cutting tool, they get dull and have to be replaced. I believe that the amount of force used to strike the die is intentionally reduced to save the die so that it will last longer, resulting in a lighter stamp. ATC springs are not stamped, so, if spring stamps don't match, it is likely that one or both springs have been changed. it is posable to have two different spring stamps that are factory original but it did not happen often.
