That’s really neat. I didn’t know they would cross like that in the wild

Heck, the last time I have seen a cinny teal bagged on the Mississippi flyway was on the chain-o-lakes in northern ill. 25 years ago. I bagged one right here in Maine

Yep suppose to be but for whatever reason some ducks have been proven to fly across country from west to east and viscera instead of the normal flyways.

That’s really neat. I didn’t know they would cross like that in the wild This might be the most common duck cross, the species are fairly closely related. I’m not sure if offspring are fertile or not. I’ve never harvested a Cinnamon, never even seen one during the season here. Once they molt it’s nearly impossible to tell them apart from Blue-wings unless you can see the bill.

A fiend who is a guide said this duck is a chestnut teal. Google it. I think he is correct. In this picture you can see the Blue shoulder patch which is found on both the Cinnamon and Blue-winged Teal. The Chestnut Teal does not have this patch, just white on the wing.

Cool photos, Tray. Cinnamon Teal are very rare in this area. I have seen exactly 2 in my lifetime here in Michigan. The first was along the west side of Saginaw Bay in 1977, and the last was only about 7 miles west of my home here near Houghton Lake. That little gem was while I was checking spring Beaver traps on a private Beaver pond maybe 18-20 years ago. what made that sighting even neater was the fact that the male Cinnamon was mixed in a smallish flock of other ducks that also included some drake Bluewings and Greenwings. That is the only time in my life seeing all three species together. I have seen numerous Cinnamons out in the western states. I always hoped to someday bag a Cinnamon out west and do a hanging dead mount of it with a drake of each of the other two with it. Maybe someday.........
Thanks for posting your pictures Tray.
