For a significant portion of my life, I didn't own a highway vehicle. There were no roads where I lived, and all access to anywhere was by riverboat, snowmachine, or small airplane. My airplanes were basically just another pickup truck.

This PA18 SuperCub was my first. Over the years, I put thousands of hours on this little girl, mainly trapping, hunting, and fishing.

This is another SuperCub on a weekend camping jaunt to a blueberry picking spot in the Fortymile range.

This is actually my work truck which belonged to Alaska Department of Fish and Game. I flew this plane for many years doing thousands of hours of various surveys, mainly for wolves, moose, or furbearers.

You have had an interesting life thank you for sharing. Back in college my roommate had his pilot's license and needed to log a bunch of flight time toward his commercial license so we made all the big rodeos.

Cubs are great airplanes. I made my living flying one for 30 years. Just under 14,000 hours.
Never got to fly with skis just tundra tires
Great pictures

I sure liked the oversized tundra tires and floats, but much preferred ski flying. That's a metric boatload of hours super cub. That's almost five years of flying 8 hours per day for 365 days of the year!

As you and I mentioned at your wuff class, there isn't a day that goes by that we don't miss being in the air.

There is nothing in this world like flight.

Thanks for the share, Jack.

Never got to fly on skis or floats. Big tires, vg's, 180 hp extended wings with tips. It was amazing what you could do with those. When I was younger and lots of guts I would put one in places i shouldn't have! The last 25 or so years I developed a yellow streak, guess that kept me alive

With all the hours in them flying did any of you ever have any mishaps or close calls?
Lots of floatplanes in N Ont.
A few years ago,a buddy of mine died when one flipped upside down in Lillabelle lake, landing in stormy weather coming back from a day fly in fishing. My other buddy got out. Both trappers.

Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.
