two ways I get cheap beef
the bargain cooler at the grocery where they put all the stuff with damaged packaging or about to reach expiration. got some nice steaks Saturday from that bin half price we had them yesterday for mothers day super
the other way is Downer cows , I am not a very good butcher for steaks so I get a some out of the back-straps , tenderloins and a few out of the hind quarters then grind the rest. these are always very very lean because it generally means a stomach issue that was keeping them from eating.
America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

To give you some idea of our cheap beef prices.
Flank steak (on sale) $9.99/lb Sirloin tip $9.99/lb cube steak $6.99/lb top sirloin $10.99/lb shoulder steak $6.99/lb
I'm seriously jealous of anyone buying beef for $3.99/lb!

About a week ago my Wife said I needed to go over to her Sister's to pick up some thing she didn't have room for in her freezers . They had a couple of their beef butchered that week . Came home with about 150 pounds of free beef . We buy very little beef , mostly burger for chili or patties . Ain't even sure what some of this stuff is . Lots of marbling in it . Her Sister said it would grade choice , that a good thing I guess . Cooked up one package of steaks that looked interesting . It was pretty good stuff . We will try to get all these freebies eaten before they get to old . We will be spoiled by then I suppose . Sister-in-Law said they are getting a couple of hogs done up in a few months , and we will need to get some room in the freezer for some of that . Nice to have a hobby farmer in the family . They have a very good income and ranch just because they can . Anyway Wolfie can't tell you what cheap cuts are best , might have an idea about the better stuff in a few weeks after we work on this freezer load .

Tenderloin is the best of the best but $28/lb? I was buying Tenderloin from Kroger 3 years ago for $8.99/lb. 8% inflation my foot.

Take a chuck or shoulder steak with good marbling, hack it real good on both sides, I use an old coke bottle, rub in meat tenderizer, black pepper, and garlic salt if you like it, put it in a zip lock bag and then in the refrigerator for a day or two and then grill it for some tender tasty lower price beef.
Sit on your horse on top of a ridge, look out across the country and tell me there is no God.

Even brisket is high. I have more than once bought brisket cheaper than burger and just ground it. Not any more. By the time you trim it cost is higher than burger

Those beef shanks really are good cooked like I described though. Try them cooked in a home made BBQ sauce in the oven in a roastpan. One of my favorite ways to cook bearmeat.

I buy 1/2 beef at a time. We can eat that much fore it freezer burns. About 1/2 the price of a retail store. Time to start shopping again. Bought one in Oct for 3 bucks hanging weight. That included processing.
