My wife makes more than enough for our baby, probably enough for two. If we knew a family who needed it she would give them the extra. Not sure it would be feasible to ship though. I think this “shortage” is going to be more of a hiccup though. In the meanwhile I hope that all the mothers who need it can find it, or an alternative. I have no idea if there is any at our stores, we never go down that isle but I will next time I go to town

Considering the nature of the product......the major source of nutrition of many kids.......newborn infants up to age 1..........there ought to be a little more concern from the parties involved. This isn't a shortage of cabbage patch kids or GI Joe with the kung fu grip.......this is life and death for some.

So the shortage appears to trace back to the possibility of a food born illness suspected to have started with bad baby formula. Major recall and FDA shut down the plant until it gets sorted. I have seen reports where that one plant is responsible for 43% of US domestic production of baby formula.

Considering the nature of the product......one might think a small army of somebodies would descend on the plant........parties moving heaven and earth to get plant up and running again. Normal process would be to deep clean the equipment, test ingredients and as those check out, get plant back up and running. I would think that could be done in days......not weeks or months. Instead we get nonchalance on the part of the FDA. Will get to it when we get to it.

My youngest daughter gave birth to twin preemie boys two and a half months ago. I just went on a hunt for the only formula they can tolerate. I found two cans at one store. I took one.

In a pinch the old standby has been safely used for decades.

1. 13 oz can of evaporated milk
2. 18 oz water
3. 1 tablespoon light Karo syrup.

Mix well. Can be kept 2-3 days refrigerated.

There has been a company that has been shutdown asking for permission to fire their formula plant back up for 2 months and the USDA won’t let them.

Also wife showed me earlier today that if you search it on Amazon and don’t find it. Switch your home country to a country that’s not the USA and you will find all you want. Interesting
