Montana has a mandatory trappers ed class unless you have had a trappers license for 3 consecutive years .

is. Let's you buy a trapper license without take trapper Ed
If you traped before 1993 or a full time farmer.

Yes that is true and for 5.5 years I was the statewide WTA Trapper Ed coordinator and I would get dozens of calls every year from those saying the lived on a farm, worked on a farm etc. etc. I told them that you can go to the license outlet places and state you are a farmer and you will get a license. I also reminded them that the DNR wardens frequently folllow up on all the exemption license holders to see if the exemption holder meets the quallifications. The first question they asked was how often do they check. I told them I did not know The 2nd most common question asked was where and when are the nearest classes.
