I had to stay home today to receive a package from Fed EX and with the rain all day (and cold) I was cabin bound. Kinda surfing the webb and did some research (starting to anyway) on maybe doing a spring bear hunt in the next year or two. Anyone want to pitch in with some suggestions on outfitters, locations, or other comments. I am in SE Nebr and have never been to Canada. Can you even get into Canada .... border open again? Will probably have to drive 24 hours in some direction to find a bear hunt I assume. I shoot a crossbow and kinda getting around a little slow due to some back problems. Thanks !!!

I have hunted Manitoba twice with success both hunts on nice bears. I hunted with Narrows Outfitters. They have a good area and a lot of bears. I would say about a 8 hour drive from Fargo, ND. Good guys up there and good fishing right there also.

Do a Canadian hunt.
Try for about 3rd week May.

I think your shots have to be up to date. So that can be a no go for Canada for some.

just make sure that you do not have a record ie DUI if so and you are past X years (10) have it sealed by a lawyer if so,( they ask you if you have been finger printed = criminal record)
if so and for employment say so off the bat
it is a real stumbling block for may coming up here, 1 person has to turn back with 4 in the party puts a damper on it
this year the 3 week of May is still soon because of the conditions of snow melt
the bears are just eating grass to get their winter plug out
by next year you will be allowed 2 bears on your licence

Hunt Northwest Montana , They grow them as big here as any place in the lower 48 , Alaska or Canada . Last week of April or first week in May . Pay close attn. to southern facing slopes and some of are old closed logging roads during green up . No guild needed , No Baiting just good fair chase and alot of different color phase . Cant figure out the down load or id post some pic . Alot over 6 foot and even a few that square over 7 feet . 2008 i took Black one that squared 7'4'' weighed in at 450 lbs live weight and had a skull on him that measured 19 7/16 . Good luck on your quest !

Blair Olafson sold out and narrows outfitters has been divided up among a couple other outfitters.

Go to the Duck Mountains of Manitoba.

Canadian Wilderness outfitters, Scott Smith
or Baldy Mountain Outfitters, Todd Wohlgemuth

Check out my youtube channel Bowhunting Road for tons of bear hunting videos on this area. I've hunted all over Manitoba and this is THE area.

There are much better bear hunts 1000 miles closer than that.

Because of the last 2 years there has been quite a change in the landscape,
1-this years water conditions is putting a damper on bait stations being re-filled.
2- some have exited because of no clients
3- some cant get gophers to work etc because of goberment money dished out
( gophers are the behind the scene guys that check trail cameras, prepare the hides etc, make everything smooth)
The fall season in Manitoba you are allowed to take a wolf on an unused tag and many of the services have some already tanned for a quick take home turn-around.

and 30% on your money exchange

Nope not true, just got off the phone with the head guide. They are hunting as we speak.

Idaho has a strong bear population and still the chance at a color phase bear. Nothing against Canada but you could shorten your drive significantly and still hunt some quality bears.

A little bit far, but I hunted with this Stony Brook Outfitters in New Brunswick, CA 4 years in a row, and will be going back if the ever drop the mandates.

The outfitter is based in Maine, but has a camp in New Brunswick, right on the lake that divides the US/CA, beautiful views, great fishing, food is good, accommodations are good. I always hunted the week of memorial day, and have taken bears with both compound bow and rifle up there.

The owners Bob and his wife Jaye are just great people, typical Mainers and they both work hard to provide you the best experience. They've got some great guides in camp that have been there for years. They've harvested some dandy bears this season so far, and I'm sure the closure for 2 years will make for a great season this year and next.
