Shared this another thread but thought I'd post it over here also. Moved a little over a year ago. New lure making area was going to be a lot smaller so I need to get better organized (not my strong suit). Built shelves after trapping season and bought totes before move. Not as spacious or as fancy as some but works for me. Coming unorganized here lately with a lot of formulating and testing. Slowing down so need to organize again. [Linked Image]

That is good use of the space you have. Smells good also!! I have learned to like Most of those smells, it reminds me of all the good times trapping critters.

You need to move some of your ingredients into the basement of your new home. That will give you lots more room. I have been down there before, and I think you could find a nice place to work also. smile

Good thinking..... and after the wife left me I'd have a lot of free time to work on the formulations. grin

I really enjoy the smells of the room also. My favorite is a really well aged base mixed with the fresh fall like smell of skunk.

That's funny stuff there.. because it's so true.

I have cultured eggs brewing on my coffee table and lots of time on my hands.

It sure looks neat and orderly. I'll have to take a picture of mine to show for an ugly comparison - lol.

Personally, as a formulator for a lifetime, I am partial to having visual contact, arms reach, multiple shelves and levels for my essential oils, tinctures, powders, skunk and Civet essence, crystals and gums etc. I know I am leaving a few things out. But you get the idea.

Essentially most all active ingredients including castor, both powder and paste types are all keep in a 15-foot range. I like to have them all at my beckon reach as I need them. Measuring materials, blenders and scales everywhere. I know where everything is due to muscle memory. However, when that goes bad, I am in trouble. smile When I am working up batches of product it sure makes for an efficient operation. No talking, no visitors or phone calls.

The middle and opposite end of the shop is for processed glands, aging meats and bases.

Reading labels on a packer daily as needed to find or to locate something would be a big issue for me. Then what you need is always in the bottom packer etc. I don't see you working in that fruit cellar or outhouse for long. We will see............... smile

Do not do this in your lure room lol. I found out that fox urine and beaver tail oil do not like each other! Foamed up & got rubbery!! lol Fish oil will do this also. Probably a few more on the list?
I am sure many of you already know this plus much more! Just thought I would share my lesson learned. Every day is school.

Yep, some fatty oils and urines would make a good rocket propellent when mixed. I would consider that an "oh no" moment. Chemistry 101. smile

Bob I completely get what your saying about having everything at arms length and full accessible and yes everything I need is the last thing I find in those totes. Lol expansion might be needed in the future. I'm taking some steps that way. It's either that or I need to quit this hobby. It's taking to much $ and time.

Mark
Been there and done that despite a warning from Cletis about it a year previously. I forgot and needed to learn it first hand.

I am currently operating in one room fur shed and lure room. Do you guys prefer your lures in a different location altogether? Or do you just go with what you got space wise. My fur shed and bait room is ok sized for one person but a second person ruins everything lol.

I used to have mine all in one shed , but out grew it.
Plus if I want help from my wife she said the lure shed needs to be on it's own. That is fine with me, it's 12x16 is lure shed and Fur shed is back to trap shop/fur shed and smells much better. 14 x22 and still full of stuff. : laugh
