Try a rat trap with peanut butter & sprinkle with bird seeds, Make sure you do stake the trap.

I bought a tube trap from WCS. I have used it on three jobs and scored all three times. It is a lethal trap but it is good.

Do you have an entrance hole?

When I was operating an ADC business, I only set traps to catch squirrels entering into the attics and walls of homes. I never set traps to catch squirrels running around the yards. If someone wanted to catch gray squirrels running around their yards, I would recommend that they purchase one or more Safeguard 18" x 5" x 5" cage traps with the Slide Open Release door from WCS- https://www.wildlifecontrolsupplies.com/animal/NWS52818.html.

For bait, I would recommend that they spread peanut butter on the trap pan and scatter black (oil) sunflower seeds in the peanut butter and in front of the trap. We have so many gray squirrels around here that some of the folks that bought traps reported catching more than 100 squirrels each year. Of course, field corn and other nuts and seeds can be used as bait. Some commercial squirrel baits are available.

Multi catch squirrel traps in many cases ,however, each job is unique and at times several single catch traps may be needed. We don't use lethal traps for our work rarely except for woodchucks in very rural areas.

IF you use a rat trap, make a weasel box to place it in. If you use a live trap you may fine the trap being rolled around by a dog or some young person with a trap on there hand. JMO.

Rat traps are a poor choice for our big MN gray squirrels. Most just push the trap off their head (happens when Iím targeting reds or flyers and a gray happens along). A swing panel or any other cage for that matter would be much better. I like 5x5s. If you want a lethal trap use a 110 or 120.
