Wondering if there are any good home remedies out there for bug bites or to prevent them? My wife seems to be extremely allergic to them and has tried several different meds. but it hasen't seemed to help that much. Thought I would reach out and see if there any REAL remedies that might help.

Benadryl ointment.

Mom always had us put mud on a bee sting after we got the stinger out. Guess that comes from raising all boys

Tobacco juice (aka spit) on bee/wasp stings. Works like a champ but really grossed me out when I was a kid

Chewed up sassafras leaves for mosquitoes.

This is what works best for me. I put some Benadryl on a bad bite, a little after 4:00am today, that was waking me up. I got a lot of deer fly bites on Monday, that were not that bad. Whatever caused this bite was worse. It made a very large hard lump under my skin. The Benadryl knocked it out quick.

Mosquitoes apply heat above it (hold a cigarette, heated spoon etc...) for a few seconds directly over but not on the bite.
Ant bites wet the area then season with meat tenderizor

I react badly to bites and scratches. Have tried lots of remedies but have found that for me hydrogen peroxide applied with a q tip several times over a 10-20 minute period alleviates the itch and dries up the area.

Early treatment seems to help me. Chigger bites linger for weeks and defy everything I attempt. I take an OTC antihistamine but those bite cause persistent agony. I have resulted to a tub bath with Clorox added to the warm water. Relief is probably in my head. Probably trading one skin irritation for another.

If someone has a cure, please post it.

Blisstex, is for cold sores but really helps great when applied to itchy bug bites

If you dont have tobacco juice , use Ragweed , people around here, have been rubbing it on bugbites and itches for century's.

Wild plantain both broadleaf and narrow leaf is a wonderful remedy for bee stings and bug bites. It is very common and when I get stung in the bee yard a quick look about usually turns up a plant. You can chew it and put it on the sting or just crush it and rub it on the affected spot. Works on bug bites too. I swear by it.

For skeeter bites, my mom always said to press an "X" on it with a fingernail, stick or ?. Worked every time.

to keep mosq at bay,, wipe down with a laundry scent wipe.

baking soda with water helps the itch with mosq.. as does crushed jewel weed.

it's your immune system kicking in to the saliva they have pumped in to draw blood

as for bee stings a fresh cut onion placed on the sting area, the Iso- Thio-cynadide( chemical) of the onion inhibits the cortizone of the sting

I make salves from different plants infused in olive oil and thickened with beeswax. For bug bites, it's usually cottonwood buds. Jewel weed works great on poison ivy, but, ok on bug bites, too.
