Anyone know if wolf fangs u get from trapping supply are all same size ? Need larger size for hold power, not sure if all wolf fang anchors the same size or not, Was plan on getting some premade ones with long cable in 1/8, I don't weld an only long driver u can get is for wolf fangs, plan on use it for some water trapping, in sand conditions alot water places, beaver traps or snares, sone coon trapping also so don't got drag along lots rerod stakes, carry a distance

They should all be uniform in size, Dave.
I like the big Berkshire soft ground ends on about 30" of 3/32 cable for sand/mud conditions. Make them myself. With the Berkshire any piece of pointed 3/8 rebar or smooth rod will work for a driver. No special driver needed.

The vender say wolf fangs are better Berkshires but did mention Berkshires work in soft sand , maybe that because has driver for wolf fangs an pre made wolf fangs, sell more product , it posted long ago about make ur own out conduit an work but lot didle around get it work right an stake or driver stick on conduit when set anchor, I rather buy them

Coonman, I use wolf fangs on my beaver snares. I haven’t had any pulled out by beaver in mud or sand. Beaver pull side ways. Set the anchor by pulling to the side. I stake out in the water when possible. When removing the snare I wrap the extension cable part of my rig around my tater rake and pull straight up to remove. On the end where my wolf fang is I use a large loop so I have the option to wrap around a tree under water to anchor it.

Now that’s neat right there

Dbl stake with rerod in sand works ok maybe for live cat h but at terminal end slider or snares, big beaver sometimes pull, I had pull up dbl stake in sand in deep water an up on bank tangle up

If you pull straight up you can pull the anchor out, by pulling to the side the anchor sets and remains at depth. Straight up and down that is maybe 30 inches under the bottom, but to the side it is considerably more. I have also had T bar stakes pulled up at the terminal end by big beaver in sand on drowning chains. Now in those situations I put a quick link a foot and a half or so from the stake so that when the beaver is fighting it at the bottom it’s not pulling straight up or kicking up the sand directly at the stake. So far the quick link has prevented the stake from being pulled up.

Great idea ! I have rember that, usally foothold if slider, gunny sack weight , never know what happen if big beaver in sand, really fight , maybe pull rerod, maybe not, I had 1/2 rod, 30 inch long cross stake pull bfore an beaver bank

Dave, wolf fangs are generally the same outside profile. But as this discussion highlights the driving recess configuration does vary a bit between manufacture's.

Does that make. Difference in hold power ?

I know this is an older thread but the OP asked if the Wolf Fangs come in more than one size. Yes, I use the Super Fang on the left. Allows me to use less cable and I sleep better at night. The Super Fangs are also thicker and less prone to bending.

Except for a few badgers digging them out I’ve never had one pulled out of the ground by anything we have a very compacted soil I've had a few I could not get in frozen wet ground but that’s very rare conditions.

Dave you are not far from pogo. Im sure he can set you up with whatever you need to hold. Ive used them for over twenty years in areas all around you and have never had a problem

For coons I’ll use 12” cabled super stakes on DP’s that I can push in by hand and pull straight up and out. Coons don’t pump, they pull side to side. Never had one go missing yet. Sure is easy when trapping creeks or swamps. If they mess up a spot too bad, just pull it up and rinse out the super stake and push it in 2-3ft away back on the trail.

Coon, beaver, anything low to the ground that doesn't dig can only pull sideways, especially if you give them a little bit of leash. Coyotes and fox are jumpers.

Hit a rock and they fold like paper, I only use an angled pipe anchor, much more durable

Old post mine. The idea buy them an make never made it off ground. I made some conduit long cable stakes, probly 40 inches or 4 ft. An have t top long rerod as driver. Just 6 of them for beaver snares I like try this upcome season. Made last winter an never used in spring .
