Its a fuel jar for a kerosene cook stove. You take the cap off to fill it, then invert it (the handle works upright, or bottom upwards) and put it in the stove. The check valve keeps the fuel oil from coming out until that pin his inside the stove reservoir. Then the fuel trickles in to burn in the stove. And then you add the castrated pig nads and cook them medium well.
Cold as ice!

I have one similar, but smaller. Was told it was used for a fuel tank for street lights in the city. (St. Louis)
