Great response. After so many responses ive seen of yours picking other people apart and your self righteousness BS this takes the cake. Terrible shot but you aced it. Only bocaren is capable of that.

Most of the bears ive shot recently have been spot and stalk with the longbow. Under 20 yds. Shot placement for me is behind the shoulder typically like a deer or elk shot. I never liked the idea of centering further back. Same with the guns

True story.Bear ran 75 yards after the shot and croaked in a slash pile.Right up the buthole and into the vitals-30-06 witha 180 gr winchester silvertip-my favorite combo when I hide hunted commercially back in the day-all spot and stalk.Hunted with 2 guns-my bolt savage 110 and my semi remington. That bear fell to the remington. Both guns with over/under scope/iron for low sun.
The big bear my buddy shot off his cabin roof fell to a 30-30-1 shot.

Great times back in those days for sure.

Here is the butthole bear.I believe around 92 or 93,a few moons ago for sure.

That rear-end shot is known as a Texas heart shot. Guess they can do it in Ontario too.

Or Pennsylvania.

The best place to shoot a bear is in the heart/lungs. There's more than one way to get there.........

This bear was Pennsylvania heart shot at 50 yards.

I did a reverse TX heart shot one time on a deer. Couldn't find an exit hole. Looked all over the thing. Didn't find it until I went to remove the Hillary from it. Then I found the exit hole.

Black bears are not a particularly hard animal to put down if you're somewhere in the ballpark and they usually don't go far, rifle or bow.

As long as you dont hit any heavy bone on bigger bears.Do that and you will be lucky to recover it.

When I hunted brown bears on the ABC Islands in Alaska, the outfitter and guides were pretty fussy about rifles, ammo and shot placement. Big guns, nothing smaller than .300 Win Mag. They preferred .338s, or .375 H&H. Sturdy bonded heavy bullets. No shooting over 50 yards. They wanted you to get a straight broadside shot and break both shoulders. With broken shoulders, they would flop and flounder around and give you more follow up shooting. It worked for me.

The coastal bears worked the waters edge, digging in the sand for herring eggs, sometimes clams too. The plan was to get a good bear preoccupied with its digging, work up close downwind of it, and anchor it on the beach. Depending on the tides, you had anywhere from 10 feet to 50+ yards of sand before it made it to the brush. The woods were incredibly thick, moss covered everything. I could understand why they didnt want to have to look for a bear in that mess.

Not after coastal bears here. But it's not out of the realm of possibility to tangle with a 600-700 pounder. A lot of the guys I hunt with use .300 Mags.............338's of various flavors..............348's..............375's............

Couple reasons. Mostly it sucks to get a chubby bear out of steep terrain. But I had to go into dark spruce after a bear that was marginally hit one time. Even a black bear will pucker a guy's bumhole when it's 50 feet away, growling and you can't see it.
