I use ships auger bit to predrill for the finned super stakes that I use. Short of tree roots or solid rock, they work and hold up pretty good for me. They are available in different sizes and lengths with many sources to choose from. Price varies quite a bit as well.

#3 is going to be a dirthole. But not one of my flashy ones. So this is how I like to do it. There are many variations on how to punch this one in. I first read about it in Hal's coyote 2000. Zagger uses this or something very similar in his pipe dream. Deep hole straight down under trap to stash the chain and spring, if you run one. It also serves as a sump should it rain. Pound in a bed with your hammer to just fit the trap. Clear any loose stuff from the hole. Using hammer tap in the loose jaw and push dirt into the jaws to lock it in place. Sift and pack tight. Brush the grass back towards the trap and duff it in. There's a trap and a dirthole there if you look close.

Are you setting along an old logging road Warrior, or in the middle of the timber?
Snap a few wide angle shots of the area around the sets if you get a chance.
No wide angle possible. I'm bending rules taking these. Let's just say an old federal installation in Atlanta. Mostly overgrown golf course where I'm setting.

I'm going to have to get one. Just means more to carry though. I agree. But worth it. Nice sets Warrior, So are you setting on sign and how are you seeing it in the terrain you described and those grass set with the hole under are you base bedding with pete for the rain or does the hole take care of rain. Asking to learn. Thanks.

All Right! Don’t tell me you're setting traps out of a golf cart. That would take it to another level. Does this mean you’re going to set 18 holes then stop in at the clubhouse for a pitcher of pop with foam on top at the end of the day? Good Stuff W, keep it up!

Asking to learn. Thanks. The hole takes care of all but the heaviest rains. Well it helps that I have photos of the coyotes using this particular location. Plus the terrain. Thin strip of woods running east west dividing two overgrown fairways. I'm on the west end. Deer trails follow an old road through the woods and there's a one acre pond just below to the north. Ball field to the west of that. Spoil pile east of the pond. Film set and asphalt south of me. That and this is the main crossing point traveling north south on the property. Entire east side is asphalt. And there's beaver in the pond I need to get rid of.

Hasn't been a round played here since Uncle Sam sold it off. Bunch of films and movies though.

If you have to chase critters, you need a better drag ![/quote] Please explain. Maybe I don’t understand how a drag works. Or maybe I don’t have confidence. And do you think a drag would work here?
