We have a bunch of shaggy manes popping up in our lawn. Anybody have any good recipes to use them with. Thanks

I picked quite a few in the Fairbanks area one season. We used them like any other mushroom. After a season of them I quite picking them. They had a lot of sand in them and no matter how much you rinsed them you ate more sand than I wanted.

They are too sensitive for me. I tried to gather a few once and by the time I got home they were already "melting". Some recipes can be found here- https://foragerchef.com/the-shaggy-mane-mushroomlawyers-wig/. Scroll to the bottom for recipes.

I cook them in a hot wok/pan with butter and grape seed oil hot and fast.
Picking them when they're still "egg" shaped and not opened up is the best time. Being an inky mushroom they will wilt fast and get a black dye look quickly in the spoors if they're opened.

Thanks. They do sound like hassle to handle if your not quick. Was thinking about trying to dehydrate them. Since there in the yard I can handle them fast.
