Got some belisle 120s w coni pans on them. Anyone ever use a bg on its side as a foothold? In my state cant use legholds and bgs must be submerged.

Nope! Always use 110 standing up or 330.

It’s been tried, not a good option.

I did it once on an educated problem beaver. He avoided all conibears after watching all the others get caught in them. He was coming out on a shallow bank over a couple feet area. Anytime I tried to block him down he would disappear for awhile. Finally I laid the belisle 330 down covering his most used routes up the bank and had him the next day. It’s not something I preferred to do, but it worked this time. Dunlap has a YouTube video talking about using 160s as footholds

If its legal and you choose to do it, make sure that it is on a drowning rig. Too much room for the captured animal to cause undue damage to itself.

Inhumane.
If you want to catch a beaver by the foot use a foothold beaver trap on a positive drowner.

220s work best on a downer of course. Paw holds do a more consistent job tho.

Some of yall must have used BGs like footholds a lot.......

....Because your opinions on their lack of effectiveness is vastly different from mine.

I do recommend being particular about using 330s like this. Use only in very rural areas.

And use only where legal to do so.

I've seen the results of a beaver caught by a foot In BG trap In a non drowning situation. Use your BGs the way they were Intended to be used.

So a famous trapper who a majority of trappers respect, can’t use a #4 long spring as a body grip? But we can use it as a beaver foot trap on a positive drowner? And a body grip can’t be used as a foot trap on a positive drowner?

Yeah..I don't get the logic either.

I use what's legal and what will do the job. I use the clip on pans, made by Clint Locklear, and made for this purpose. I dont use BGs like this often, but when I need to...I do.

And I am careful where I use these tools...just like I am careful with any type trap used based on the location.

I have used 160 size BG's in place of a foot trap for muskrats set horizontally on rat stands with a carrot for bait. Worked for me but you need to either remove 1 spring or resign yourself to setting 2 springs (time and effort factor) as opposed to a # 1 or 1.5 LS. No experience with anything larger. .................. the mike

I'm not arguing for or against it because I've never done it, I guess I'm just answering questions with more questions really.
But if foot holds are illegal for you, wouldn't setting a BG with foothold intentions be illegal?
I'm also having a hard time seeing how you would bed a body grip as a foothold, seems to me it would turn into a giant jump trap and be likely to fling whatever stepped on your pan halfway across the pond instead of catching it? But I watched cartoons in the 70s, so that may be influencing my ideas of how this would all work out....................
