87,000 agents is roughly 30 per county in the US. If an auditor can do 1 audit per day and works 240 days per year, that's 7,000 more audits in your county every year...70,000 more over 10 years. I'm sure that audits almost always result in taxes due - whether they really are due or not. That's a lot of skimming more money out of everyone's paycheck.

The IRS does not go after tax-paying citizens, just those who elect not to pay according to the law. Which group are you among? If all people followed the tax laws, no new agents would be required. How does the IRS know you are not paying according to the law? The only way they know that is if you don't pay any taxes but somehow they have your name. Or, if they audit you. The purpose of auditing is to check a small number of tax payers and put a little fear in the rest. How old are you, Charles? You are certainly naive!

Put me in charge and those what get audited will be every member of congress, and their staff; every federal judge; every employee of IRS, every employee of ATF, FBI, DOJ, every journalist and every member of the screen actors guild.
That ought to keep em busy. Had a relative that worked in that division of the IRS. They do audit them; they just blame their accountants/advisor for the "mistake". With deep pockets an attorney works out a deal and a check gets written, and it all goes quietly away. They're not treated like the avg citizen, definitely a double standard here in the good olde USA.

Does anyone actually believe “THE OLD MAN” that IRS is only going after wage earners in the OVER $400,000.00 bracket

All said and done, it wouldn't surprise me if 60% of your earnings go to taxes. When all is said and done it is closer to 95-99%. Everything at every step is taxed in some manner.
