More that 900 Canadians were lost on that day of their attempted landing.
Interesting that there was a post cards sent to houses where soldiers lived that year today.

I believe that was disaster from the start for those brave men. Hero's one and all.

Yes from a night landing being late
to using beach photographs of people's holidays
lessons were learned for the next invasion

my mailman did not come today so I expect a card in the mail Monday, since the former owner was a POW from that invasion.

Post a pic when it arrives! I know the Dutch sure still appreciate what the boys did for them back then.
Sadly it seems they’re much more appreciated out there than in their own country.

The write up in the paper today was from a Tank driver that was wounded but healed and told his to-be wife he was not getting married in army boots, so his mom sent him some over. He carried them in the turret above his head and during the Italian offensive a piece of shrapnel went through, and then into his skull, he survived and married that girl and is 100 now

my uncle was a tank instructor in a range out here; a 5 minute ride in one of the old tanks gets a 14 year old more than excited

Thanks for sharing Northof50! I knew that the attempted Dieppe landing was in 1942 but had forgotten the date and it had mostly slipped my mind the role that Canadians had played in the attack. I'm glad some people still remember!

So much of the history and lessons learned from the 20th century have been lost on contemporary society. The blood of the First World War has almost been entirely forgotten and WWII is fading fast. Korea and even already Vietnam are mostly after thoughts. I think its done on purpose through our educational system using the teachers as pawns by controlling elites. If the consequences of various bad geopolitical decisions and the horrors of war are forgotten, its easier to get people to endure them again. Some wars end up needing to be fought, others are more by choice...

"And God said, Let us make man in our image and let them have dominion and all the creatures that move along the ground".
Genesis 1:26

I find it particularly interesting that the second article you linked stated that the Juno Beach Centre Association "skews (the developed list of addresses) toward addresses in urban settings because those who were from rural areas couldn’t be reproduced, That makes sense to me because my home address has changed once and my camp address three times in just the last twenty-some years.

Also very interesting was the fact (from the first article you linked) that 100-year-old Gordon Fennell spoke at the gathering in Square du Canada in Dieppe, France eighty years to the day after Operation Jubilee.

Good stuff, thanks for sharing.

Did you receive a postcard at your address?

Eh...wot?

our mailman seems to take Friday's off, so still waiting Lugnut
have contacted another person that was in a veterans house to see if he got one
when you live in a 100 year old house sometimes the former owners did stuff you would never know

like when they showed up to get the former owner's Luger, I still have not found it.
