10/4 Young man. Keep at it. You will succeed .Do you have a decent amount of coyotes in your area. When does you season start? You can pick up alot of good info on here. Lots of coyotes since we have a lot of cattle around here, upside is that we can trap and hunt the whole county for coyotes pretty much except for a few properties. The season is year-round, I've been picking up a few tidbits but haven't been able to try it yet.

I meant that a coyote stole a raccoon out of my trap, I have never been able to catch a coyote no matter my efforts.
You actually had a coyote take a coon out of a trap? The only thing down here that’ll touch a coon or possum down here is a buzzard. Yeah, 3 or 4 times now, It shows up in the snow really good and the only thing left most of the time is the foot. I know a lot of people will think it's them chewing out but It's pretty easy to see when there are coyote tracks around the set.

#3s modified, prefer Northwoods and Bridgers, and MB 650 IL/OL. Mainly trap coyotes. Also #1.75/#2s and 550s for targeting everything else.

I can make any brand of trap, thats the proper size for species targeted, work. Some just take more "tuning" than others. Offsets for beaver coon mink or rats I wont use but the brand is not critical.

okay -- I have bigger traps and all makes, however I 99 percent of the time set a #2 square jaw Duke--- offset, laminated, base plated extra swivels----- they are also 4 coiled. I went to them almost exclusively a couple of years ago after experimenting with all the other traps mentioned. They will hold any coyote alive, if they step on the pan , they are going for a truck ride. I also trap around livestock guard dogs, this trap does not do any damage as modified. They are reasonably priced and function flawlessly, the dog does need a hammer wack to straighten occasionally. I also file the dogs as miles trigger . Do you primarily trap coyotes with them? I'm looking at a similar setup.

Bridger 2 or an MB 550 are tough to beat for all around model/species in my area. I like both. I have both dog on and dog less for Bridger 2s and 3s. If I have only coyotes I use the 3s but I prefer the 2s. I must have smaller coyotes the 3s grab pretty high sometimes and they are way too big for coon or fox. Jim
Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

Coyote No bs extreme traps are spectacular. I have mostly switched to those on private property. I use #3 or 4 jumps with paw I trip pans in higher theft areas. Love the big jumps in snow sets.
Smaller animals Love the pcs featherlight traps for coon. 1.5 in all kinds of variety are universal. Long springs are great too for various reasons.
I like used traps for public land if possible due to theft. Victor, SC, Montgomery, and BandL are what I look for. Most of my theft comes from water trapping. I quit trapping culverts altogether as that was the worst. The only bodygrips I use on public land are for beaver. I like BMI bodygrips lately. I have a bunch of older Victors as well.
I have a lot of old used traps from deals throughout the years.
My advice is to get a larger trap for coyote like a 2 or 3 size wise and a bunch of cheaper 1.5 coils for the rest. 1 3/4 is adequate for everything, but it’s too big for coon and such in my opinion. Maybe some dog proofs for trapping coon by barns and such.
