Griner was born in Houston, the daughter of Raymond and Sandra Griner. Her father is a former Harris County sheriff and Marine veteran who served in Vietnam in 1968 and 1969. She has three older siblings.

In fact, I think if you are taking a knee or are on record stating how much you hate this country, you shouldn't even be allowed to compete. She broke Russian law and should be punished according to Russian law.
Totally separate issue from whatever her stance is on the US. Last I checked the US is a free country, and freedom means that you get to say and feel however you want about the United States and not be prosecuted for it. Kinda like many on here that bash the Biden administration daily. In many countries you’d be thrown in prison till you turned to dust for that, but here you are protected from that by our freedoms, the same way that she is. Goes both ways. True, but what you're forgetting is that a lot of good people died so we could have the freedom to do just that. To disrespect the flag of the country is to disrespect the people who gave their lives. I heard this morning that Dennis Rodman was thinking about going to Russia to try to get her freed. He might want to think twice about that. I doubt Putin is a fan of Rodman's like the North Korean dictator was. Rodman could end up in prison alongside her giving Putin more to bargain with.
