I pledge to freeze nut sacks. Honestly I was struggling with an inspirational mantra for this fall and winter. Thank you.

When asked to age a cam pic of a deer, it helps to know its name. Older deer have names like Bob, Tom, Jim and nicknames like porkchop and tenderloin.

Younger deer have names like Chance, Devon, Brandon and nicknames like sticker, droptine, and wallhanger.

Tofan,
Just what the heck are you going to do with those buck testicles? Wiping out genetics? Is driving that electric truck shorting out your brain?

gringringringringringringringringringringringringrin I figured I would ask some here how they would extract the deer maker from said nuts, here it's very possible that a buck gets killed before he gets to spread the seed so to speak. All public land though. Lmao

I'd say 4.5. I would give him 2 more years and he will be an awesome deer.

Ultimately it is up to you . If it makes you smile. Take him home!

If it makes a track on this earth , I can catch it.

Blood test to determine DNA and genetic line would help as well. Seriously if you like him kill him it's your tag. We tried to kill a buck for 4 years, and finally killed him and aged at 7, he was a beast, and ugly small 9 point, but kicked every other deer around. He well could be over 4, belly, chest, look it.

Still great deer for 7 point

Summer is when bucks are at their heaviest weight of the year and most will have fat bellies.

Those KY bucks must be different.

Even with all that, I would still shoot him during deer season. He's a keeper!

I don't know about down south but the average age of a doe in WI is something like 6 years and a buck is only 3 according most of the studies done in the state.
Myself I'd say 3 years,

They can live much longer but it a rare occasion to get past 10 years, 20 is the max I've seen.

I agree with K snow, hunt them for food first and foremost, antlers are just an interesting by product.

Bucks in velvet around here seem to all run together and are afraid of girl deer. Tendencies? I concur.

Might do a little digging Deer put on their heaviest weight in fall NOT summer. Most you can see their ribs in summer No need to store fat up Food is plentiful. As for the term “ thicket deer “ if there isn’t any ag fields around they are eating browse So if that’s the main source of food they find it in thickets! Unless he is feeding in a corn pile
Got a novel ideal kill it have him aged and scored get back to me on my evaluation see how close I am

Sorry bud, but there’s no way any 7 point goes 125 with brow tines like that! It takes a world class 6 to go pope and young!

Jbyrd,
Whitetail bucks are their heaviest in late summer. With breeding activity begins their movement increases dramatically. Their food intake becomes less important and their weight starts dropping....first they appear to tone up then by post-rut they sometimes look like a bag of bones.

Now doe deer are the opposite as their weight is not tied to their breeding cycle in fall.

Btw...all of Georgia is not a thicket. Get out more.

You might be right but according to NORTH AMERICAN WHITETAIL Dr deer and their biologist FALL is when they put on the MOST fat Just saying. That's when they are the heaviest around here also.
Fall Requirements
Fall is when bucks are preparing for battles and breeding, does are trying to get in shape for pregnancy and fawns are attempting to put fat on their frames to endure winter. Overall, every deer in your herd is trying to increase fat stores, and to do that they need "energy."

Simply put, energy comes from fats and carbohydrates and is among the most important components of a deer's diet, second only to water. Energy is required for all bodily functions and physical activity to take place. Carbohydrates and fats are what give whitetails the energy needed to survive, and they can be stored as fat throughout the fall for use during the rut and succeeding winter.

What from that picture makes you say that deer's prime habitat isn't a pine thicket? Is it the pile of apples he's standing over. The extra special ones that grow on an apple pine? OR is it a pine apple if it's under a pine tree?

No Jybrd. That deer was photographed in timber, but where WannaBe lives has as much or more ag fields than the midwest.

WannaBe can chime in about that habitat...
