I have 10’ ceiling in my garage. I bolted up a harbor freight electric winch to the ceiling, plugs into outlet for my garage door opener. The control box is on long enough chord I can rubber band it to a nearby steel beam support post.
For the lower unit…I took a flat wooden moving dolly on rollers and stacked a few #75 pound truck bed sand bags on it for weight. I took short sections of chain and bolted those to the wooden dolley frame and put vice grips on end of the short chains for grabbing hides. When you are done you can just roll the base off to the side and I can pull my truck back into the garage when I’m done skinning.
This setup works really well on both coyotes and coon.
The boys and I peeled quite a few dogs with it last winter.
Pretty cheap and efficient setup.
Jim

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

No hair pulling. It doesn't seem to matter smooth rod or rebar but use heavy bars of which ever you choose. 5/8" rebar will bend a little on big tough critters. I'd use 1" bar if I were building one for myself. A&J Skinning Machines sell them too for about what it would cost to build it if you don't already have the parts.
