I received a "raccoon in the chimney" call last night. Surely they are not nesting in there this time of year. I'm guessing it is just a den site. I'm going there this am to see what the deal is. Any suggestions or ideas would be appreciated.

a chimney sweep broom from the bottom you can get them headed up , if there was an appropriately sized conibear at the top

I dealt with that once and lets just say shooting them down the chimney wasn't the best idea I had a lot to clean up , and no I didn't miss and hit anything but raccoon it worked just messy

Use a chimney trap on the occupied flue. You will catch the coon when it comes out to forage at night. Or You can mount a cage trap on a plywood platform on the chimney crown and attach it with ratchet straps and screw down the cage trap with screws and washers to anchor it in place. Make a nose cone that fits the mouth of the cage trap and attach that to guide and force the animal and catch it doing that as well.

Chimney traps are super effective.

Inasmuch as I do not have a flu trap (yet), I am trying an eviction method. I sent a vinegar soaked sponge and 1/2 a bottle of red pepper down the chimney. They were not happy and growling quite a bit. Hopefully this will persuade them to leave and I can get a cap on the chimney.

I remember this job specifically the lady telling me it has been stuck in the chimney for a week and a half why would i think that’s going to work lol. I said it isn’t stuck, you will see it up there tomorrow or the next day. Next morning, there she was.

That's a neat set up with the multipurpose Comstock set up on the board. One more use for a trap that was made to catch woodchucks at den sites.

I stand corrected. The black trap above is a 30 inch double door used with a 3 way wire nose cone, very similar as the multipurpose has the nose cone built in with a 26 inch catch box.

Jim, you were right the first time. It is a multipurpose. I don’t have any of your nose cones. Love the multipurpose traps

I use Comstock traps for most of my ADC work.
Both the double door with either the wire or sheet metal nose cone and the multipurpose traps are great!
They are effective - no misfires, no misses, and no escapes.
The black powder coating holds up well.

They have made me look really good to customers, carry them in and out like a suitcase.
When I received my first four traps, I examined and set them, then immediately ordered more, and more.
They are versatile and as shown can be adapted to many situations.
I use the 5x5 squirrel trap as a repeating exclusion device for squirrels, chipmunks and birds.

These traps are money makers.
Best of all, I now consider Jim and Judy to be friends.

Thanks for sharing your success stories. The multi purpose was originally made for ground work, chucks and skunks, armadillos. We were amazed that so many have used them for coon in all sorts of ways. The catch box in the multi is 26 inches long, only 13 inches to center, but has been working for a lot of guys, which was nice to see. Of course the 3way wire nose cone could be used with a 30 or 36 inch double door to work like the multi if a longer trap was desired. Sometimes a flush mount trap will work. We have flush mount traps and any of the 9x11 traps can be made flush mount with a clip on solid flush mount ring. Was just thinking that a flush mount type of solid adapter could be made like a 3way nose cone to fit semi permanently like the ring in the future.
