I take a few daily prescriptions for asthma and GERD. I know these prescriptions come from a Dr.'s note, but, if I know I'll need them indefinitely, is there a way to get a continual monthly 'scrip mailed to my door? It's tough to have to take time off from work just to visit the doc. to ask for more refills for non-narcotic meds. that I'll need to take forever. Many times, if the prescription that I need filled is out of refills, the pharmacy has to fax a note to the dr. to make sure they can fill the 'scrip. This can, at times, take a few days, which is no good for my health. Anyone else run into this frustration?

Doctors won't write prescriptions indefinitely without checking on you once in a while. Get set up with one of the bigger pharmacies and you can manage prescriptions online. You'll get emails before it's time to refill and you just click "refill" to make it happen. That way you don't run out. But eventually you will need a new script when the old one is no good.
I think doctors (maybe it's different in other states) can write scripts that are good for up to 1 year of refills but maybe your doctor thinks he needs to see you more often to monitor your conditions and writing shorter scripts is a trick to keep you coming in.

I just had 3 refilled-Doctor wrote them so each one is refillable for the next year. I get my RX's from Wal Mart. They keep track of when mine are about to run out and refill them automatically and call me when they are ready. Tom

Try a tele visit. My last scrip renewal was by phone 3 months with one refill. I’ll have to go in for blood work at the end of this 6 months refill.

If you take natural supplements, you don't need prescriptions for them generally speaking. You can order them from the comfort of your home.

What are you taking for GERD? Many of those meds are now OTC. I take generic Pepcid BID and buy in multi-packs from Costco. No doc needed.

I know what you mean about keeping track of your meds Currently I am taking several different meds several times per day Altogether I take 20 some pills a day .I keep a note book handy to keep track of things like when I picked my last script If the current script is expiring .Which doctor is ordering each med. which pharmacy I get the meds from .and so on .It may seem simple but I find it helpful to have all that info in one place so I do not end up with the wrong meds
