Following the waxed dirt threads and am going to do some waxed sand, I think. I trap in North Carolina some and it is mostly sand of some type there. Even I can bed a trap rock solid in sand. It seems like concrete sand would be a little coarse.

Not sure how it will work but I bought the play sand from home depot and sifted the larger rocks out .

I get my sand out of the creek bed, dry if is not dry already and then sift it before adding wax. Don't overcomplicate it.

I use sand from pocket gopher mounds. Haul it home in buckets, sift it, dry it before waxing.

I prefer Masonry sand, it's coarser than beach or playground sand and seems to drain water better and not compact so tight.

I just dig it out of the ground. I'm lucky that I live on the edge of 12 million acres of the Sand Hills.

I like using the sand that is deposited in the fields after
a flood it's a mixture of sand and dirt.

I dig mine out of the local sand hills (my property), soft and dry it as needed, and add wax.

I use play sand from home depot. It’s sifted, cleaned and dried. They run it on sale once in awhile.

I use sand from down on the river. If you find a good bar it’s as clean as anything you’ll buy at the store.

I didn't know good bars were ever clean.

There are no natural sands to be had in my area. I will need to buy sand from a supply yard or other outlet. I was looking for a shortcut to reduce the legwork of trying different sands. Maybe it won’t matter that much.

I certainly ain't no expert, last couple years I've been using tube sand. I get 70lb Sakrete tubes (yellow bag) at Lowes. What I especially like is that it's already dry as a bone. Easily make a couple 5 gallon buckets in a pinch. I use strickly blended flat sets. Dirt holes might be tough to make them look natural in most spots I'm trapping, but I like flat sets better anyhow. I find using no bait, and I cut down on non-targets. Mainly after fox and coyotes. Have fun and good luck!

I buy sand from the orange store. Usually I can get it for a discount at this time of year especially if you find bags with small holes in it. Takes a lot of time and effort to collect the same amount of sand and then sift and dry it enough to wax. Some may think that is the lazy way, I say it's the efficient way. I used to gather sand and do all the work but not any longer.

Wish I had more time to trap....

Thanks for the input. I will keep watch for deals on bagged sand and probably give that a try.

A few years ago I bought some sand from Home Depot that was dark brown and it matched the color of the local dirt. I haven't been able to find it again so I use sand/silt from the river bottoms below my house. It's the prefect color and 100% stone free.
