Has anyone used the flagging they sell on Minnesota trapline products? It’s a fake feather, basically a picture of a turkey feather. I bought a few to try.

Most anything will work if it contrast with the background color when fluttering in a breeze.
For a set location attractor I used a 4X6 inch piece cardboard, brown on one side and white on the other. When fluttering in a breeze the white stands out against the dark forest cover background and the brown against the snow, like a flashing neon sign. This flasher is placed about 5-10 feet out side the cubby where it can be seen from several long distance directions within hare activity areas. [Linked Image]

The only constant in trapping is change so keep learning.

Dove season always provides plenty of real wings for this guy but I don't trap in a state that makes you go store bought.

I never used MTP's but I am sure they work if you are on the cats.

I used flagging alot years ago but got away from it unless in very very heavy cover. In that kind of tight or rocky habitat getting cats is pretty easy if you've been around a while, so flagging really isn't needed. Make them step where you want and go where you suggest them to go.

Too many hawks, owls and curious humans stopped me from using them anymore. Flagging, pieces of fur, feather or fiber fill attracts visual interest from everything that lives in that immediate habitat.

Predators know what is new and different in their territory and it doesn't take long for some of them to get curious and investigate it.

I got away from all kinds of visuals both elevated and ground placed materials. I depend upon scent to do what I need and want. Works for me.

I learned a lot about flagging from old Jimmy Shank.
He showed me how a white plastic bag up against black spruce bush would draw a pack of wolves across a frozen lake in winter so they could hit the jackpot.
He also taught me about using flagging as a diversion to activate sets.Gets canines to go off a trail into blind snares set weeks before.

My season starts 12/26 & I still haven't decided how much I should rely on flagging but I did buy this the other day at Ace thinking it might work decent

The 1st cats I caught were on grocery bags tied on a cedar limb. If I use flaging now it's usually vhs tape.
