Got some ppl wanting coon work for agricultural damage. Wondering what a fair price for such work. Also beaver. I always charge 25 per removal.

How does $25/removal pay for your gas and time?

What about your expenses checking a trap when there isn’t a catch?

I check them on way home from work. Dont use really any gas for my beaver control work. But I'm asking other ppl and they say 25 is way too low

I don’t know how you would make it work for a business at that price. For a hobby, sure, anything helps.

For a business, even if the stop is on route, you have to charge as if it wasn’t.

The business has expenses such as vehicle, traps, maintenance, insurance, your salary, advertising , etc. divide this by the number of hours you have to work. Everything you do has to be for more than this number, or you’re giving away your work for free. That number is break even. If you need to buy a trap that wore out with your own money, the business is losing money.

Log your expenses for a couple months to figure out what they are. Don’t fall for the, it didn’t really cost any more gas” excuse. Figure out how much gas it’d take to drive out and check your traps. Don’t forget to account for your travel time in your expenses.

plainstrapping25, my take...if you are comfortable with 25 a coon that's fine. But at least cover yourself for setting the traps and pulling the traps because like Eatenby limestone has pointed out your time experience and the cost of gas is worth something. Charge a daily fee it will help AND consider a cost for possum skunks too. What are you charging for beaver?

A set up fee per each job, a daily per trip fee, and a per animal fee is going to cover your expenses and make you a profit. You already have a per animal fee established.

The set up fee should cover your travel expense out and back, set up time, scouting time, equipment and knowledge.

Minimum hourly rate should be at least $50.00. If you use the system we use you can waive the per animal charge. If you catch several animals a day you will have time in dispatch, resetting and animal disposal to handle

It depends on how far you travel and how much time you will spend each day. A flat $150 a day for a couple hours work would be fair. Do the math it may surprise you.

I generally charge $400 - $500 per day on coyote work.

Thank all of you. Been trapping all summer for some ppl. Wanted to be fair. But yet not get short changed either in the future. Adc work to me is not nearing as enjoyable. But cant turn ppl in need down either

Bob has it right. You want to cover your cost. I look at my total cost, I have a simple formula, If I am getting around 94% to 100% of the jobs I am too cheap, If I am only getting around 65% to 80% I am charging to much . But remember this is not my lively hood. Just a way to make extra money. JMO.

I believe plainstrapping25 will do very well if he decides to get further into the ADC game...he treats the customer fairly. Every part of this country has a different customer base. He will figure out the best system to not only help his "customers" right now farmer friends, but not hurt his own pocketbook.
