I retired in March of this year. I'm just starting my dream job and that's to import fireworks from china for my fireworks business lol. Some people say that I'm not retired but I would say there wrong as I only work fireworks about 2 weeks out of the year so I'll call it my retirement vacation .

I like working. The construction hauling I do most of the time now can get a little tedious. I loved OTR driving especially when it got to where my wife could go with me. The job I liked doesn't really exist anymore unfortunately. You can still drive OTR but its completely different now. I may retire one day but for now I get bored after awhile. I like trapping in season but it is getting to expensive. What with lost wages and high fuel cost, no coyote or coon market, trapping this winter at least will just be done when there is no day jobs cause of weather. I could probably develop a nuisance business but quite honestly I dont want to put in the effort. I have slowed my roll a bunch in the last ten years. I dont think trapping to make someone else happy sounds nearly as fun as trapping to make me happy. Hopefully this political ridiculousness with Russia and China lines out and we get a market again.

Do you have it? If not, what is it and what's stopping you from getting it? I do not love it, but I like it most days. I love doing controlled burns at my place. I love the preparation. I love the burns. I love the results. I always wanted to be in wildland firefighting. I'm almost 50 and I realize working a fire line in western OK is way different than working in the mountain west. So that ship has sailed. I'll look forward to retirement and will no doubt have some uncontrolled burns to deal with.

Not yet but in 4 years hopefully. I would love to be a state trapper and hopefully, the 4-H Ethics Program is still around then so I can use myself as an example of what happens when someone is exposed to trapping. Fur shed with all of my traps in nice neat cubbies, nice straight rows of stretchers, Dream trapping vehicle that's what my dream job is.

My dream job was always to be a race car driver. I got to do that on a small scale for a while as a hobby. But I never had the money required to get started doing it professionally. I think I could have been good enough to make it, though.
Now, I've found out that my dream job would be firefighting. Unfortunately, I'm now way too old to get hired on as a full-time, career firefighter. The crappy-(This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) commie union keeps me from getting in. But I do have a side hustle working part-time as a firefighter/EMT for an area fire department - fill-in work for the career guys that are on vacation or their "Kelly Day" off. (they get a LOT of time off and the dept. can never seem to stay fully staffed.) I also volunteer FF in the township where I live. The hourly pay rate is not much but it's easy to rack up hours. And, I love the work. So, that's a good deal for me.
My full-time job is still a drudgery. But it pays the bills and keeps my family going, so that's why I do it.

I had two dream jobs. The first was 24 years in the USAF, where I had a job that I enjoyed every day of it. It was a lot of fun and excitement. The second was a full time beaver trapper for 30 years. I've been a full time lure maker and Trapperman custodian for the past 24 years. I'm also a semi-retired beaver trapper. I can honestly say I've never had a job that I didn't thoroughly enjoy. The trick to being happy is to have a job that fits your personality and lifestyle .If you are doing something that you enjoy and your job allows you to have the freedom to pursue your personal life and hobbies than most days it does not seem like work I was fortunate to have a job that was close to home flexible with my work hours and vacation time .And allowed me to do my job as I thought it should be done. In other words I was self supervised .The pay was not great but I was always able to pay my bills on time .For about 35 years I did the things that where most important to me .Unfortunately the owner was getting older and the owner could not find anyone to buying the company .Eventually the patterns and trademarks where sold to a holding company And they contracted with a foreign manufacturer to make what had been American made since 1811 All of the several thousand employees where replaced by Chinese We all have a job so we can pay our bills If while paying those bills we can still enjoy our lives we should be thankful for each day

I didn’t realize there was such a thing until I quit having a Job and figured out I could work for myself and make a living trapping.

Trapper. Got a great pension from the RR due to all the extra overtime hours I worked trapping for them.

Nuisance Beaver control. A union job for the railroad.Opened yearly for bid from the seniority list for RR rules qualified employees with valid trapping licence-Full time work with unlimited overtime from April to December. The Company and Union worked together to create the job for me after lengthy negotiations. Looked after 600 miles of track trapping nuisance beaver and lowering water.Filled in weekly tracking reports for MNR. Great pay, benefits and daily per diem away from home living expenses on top.
Dream job but tough hard work in tough conditions.
