Hi everybody I’ve posted a few times now asking beginner questions, and I’m sorry to ask another but I’ve recently realized I won’t be able to afford a line this year by the look of it… BUT me being me, I refuse to quit. I’m interested in making snares. I’ve watched a few videos but I know trapperman is the real place to go if I want the good tips! What are the tricks to making snares as cheaply as possible? I just want to catch some critters, I don’t care about fancy. Thank you for your help, this site has been the most instrumental thing for me in my journey to learning how to trap, and as a lifelong hunter and fisherman I have been absolutely shocked at how helpful veteran trappers have been to me. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Lol, no comment.....

I wonder if tap dancers walk into a room, look at the floor, and think, I'd tap that. I wonder about things.....

I know you are on a budget but don't go cheap on the main snare cable. You want Korean or American if you can find it.

This is to ensure you get cable with the right lay to be properly loaded.

For extensions, earth anchors and such the Chinese will do though I avoid anything from China on principle.

You must have a couple traps by now eh? You don’t need a line, just start with what you got. I started this spring going for beaver cuz I had two 330s. A fella gets pretty pumped up checking only 2 traps and you see that your set is different than when you left it! 4 beaver outta those buggers……and I don’t even know what the (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) I’m doing!…..lol

I’m planning on trapping just about whatever I can, I know I have spots for muskrat, mink, coon, beaver, coyote, and fox.

Get your cable from Newt and he'll answer your questions as well.

I build my own snares I use 1x19 5/64" cable and I like the mini cam locks, slimlocks, ambergs, and Grawes Bullet locks. With 1x19 cable use 2 stops as the slick cable can slide out on big coyotes and beaver

Research Slim Pederson snaring info, he used a knot in the cable. That’s pretty basic !

Very few trappers can master snaring before learning how to trap with footholds. You are trying to skip the basics of trapping. Good luck.
