I realize nothing is certain except death and taxes, however, I've been reading that "pull only" DPs mostly avoid skunks.

Has anyone found that true or is it more in the bait used?

Thanks

I caught a lot of skunks in dp's. Can cut down a lot on skunk catches by staying away from fish or meat type baits in my experience. Never bothered me to catch a few skunks

Skunk paws are pretty tactile, they can reach down a hole and hook a trigger and pull it up.

When the anti neighbor looks over the fence and snaps a pic of the skunk in a DP you’re going to get some bad press. That’s going to be on Nextdoor within 5 minutes.

Bait free is the best way to avoid non target catches.

Im very careful with when and where I use footholds. This is in a large, very wooded lot with lots of privacy. I agree, don’t give the antis any ammo.

Good advice.

I do not use dog proof traps in any ADC scenarios to catch anything. To do so is asking for bad press, business problems, and gives ammunition to antis. An animal in a DP in a catch circle makes a bad photo or worse yet video.

In a likely or even potential skunk situation I set tube traps for skunks and cage traps for raccoons. Each is baited appropriately. For the customer and me in a very expensive home situation I prefer skunks in a tube, not a cage. The more preferred method is an unbaited trap to catch them where they want to go.

This time of year, some customers insist that skunks are destroying their lawn based upon not seeing them and reading on the interweb. I do not challenge their expertise, but tell them what I see as raccoon damage. It takes only a few minutes to set traps for both. I catch the usual suspects, no more damage, and I move on.

Pull only DPs are great skunk takers. Watched a whole show on using them on skunks specifically.
It’s all about bait and location to catch them with DPs, and it’s all about bait and location to avoid them.
Dukes, Z-traps, any of the pull only are great skunk traps.
Avoid fishy or meat based baits to avoid skunks. Go with something like fruit loops, etc.
And don’t use coon lures either, for some reason skunks like those too.

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.
